With new video cards right around the corner it's easy to get excited, and
to get that 'must have' feeling we all get whenever a new product is announced.
However..
I'd like those with 280's 260's, 4870's ect to seriously consider WHAT A WASTE
it would be to upgrade to the new Nvidia GPU'S coming out next month.
There's absolutely no point ! The wise decision would be to save your money !!
Save it and build a completely new system perhaps sometime the END of next year.
I for one am personally going to see how long my GTX 280 holds it's own.. and
something tells me it's going to be a while. :)
Riiight.
We all know this is a simple refresh with a little more polish to tide us over until the new architecture comes through. I am liable to get a new 260 or 280 myself when they release. I want more VRAM and power and the prices should be even more competitive.

I'm just waiting to see what the current 280 drops to ,hopefully it's in the high 200 range.

Newegg.com has a great buy on a BFG GTX 280 OCE for $349.99 plus a rebate for $35 makeing it just $314.99 ,that is a dam good deal on a GTX 280 and the ones I have overclock pretty good too.Plus they have the 100 day step-up plan and a Life time warranty and even comes with a free copy of FarCry2 ,3DMark Vantage Advance and a keychain super bright flash light.

LMAO...and I'm still running my 8800GTS G92 with every intention of leapfrogging the GTX 2xx series. I plan on building new in May/June and would hate to have to put technology that's almost 1 year old into it (regarding CPU, GPU).
I'm waiting to see what develops in the Spring.

Well in your case ^ it would be a good decision to upgrade.
But for those of us with anything higher than a GTX 260 should probably wait !!
(Unless ya got money to burn but really it's X-mas.. should be the season of
giving not spoiling ourselves !! )
I got my 8800GT in November 2007 for $300 and my GTX 260 for $340 in July, so I am going to try and not spend like that for a while again
It's not just a simple refresh, Nvidea is also coming out with the GTX 295. If thats priced decenty, (sub 550) and it doesnt have the stuttering of the 9800 gx2 I might get one.

I too have a 280 Gtx and I think you may have a point.
ALSO WILL THIS NEW GPU WORK 100% on Intel Chipset Motherboards...i.e crossfire boards?
as its like SLi and dont think it will perform 100% on SLI Boards? maybe will only get power of 1 GPU?
