Since I already beat GTA 4 on the 360 and seeing people struggling to get it working on the pc, I decided to try out Mafia once again. Its the only game I had played through twice. The game even now looks so spectacular. the city of Lost Heaven is so beautifully rendered and except for the poor draw distance, is more livelier than Liberty City. The time period is so nicely captured from the lively music to the sounds of cars and their horns. Also neat touches like the sound of the steamer in the river, or trains running overhead, the game is simply so well put out. Also the character models are excellent for a 5 year old game and it runs like a charm all settings maxed on my 8800gt in vista.

Most definitely a game that's stood tall through its life

It runs like a charm maxed on my 6600GT :p I finished the game with my TI4200, and except some slowdowns during heavy traffic it performed perfectly.

Just let a friend borrow it the other day. He's stuck at the race track level just like I was for a while but he got too frustrated to keep going. :p

I remember there was a save file floating around that let you bypass the race. It was probably the most frustrating aspect of the game!!!

there is no need for a save file, there is a trick to skip that part and i happily used it to go ahead in the game. Never finished however becoz of my ****ty rig.

Great game !!!

Mafia was such an amazing game. Easily in the top 5 games I've ever played. The storyline alone was incredible.

Completing the race mission with ease

On the race mission, after you go through the first checkpoint turn left down what looks like a shortcut. Keep going until another checkpoint message appears, and then press NUM0. This will put you in front of the finish line in first place, just repeat this until you win.

Heh, I finished the game few months ago. Awesome game, and I'm glad I found some time to finish it. I agree about horrible draw distance, I wish there was a way to change it. :(

I can't wait for Mafia II.

Just the stock game with the unlimited draw distance mod. Runs far worse, but looks oh so much better.

'Unplayable', but bearable. It's like Crysis.

If I had to guess (because I haven't measured it), it probably would've dropped from an average of around 100fps to 30 or so. Possibly lower at some points depending on what's visible.

Thing is there are a few mods that do the same thing, all of them pathetically oversized (due to having to package up entire modified world maps), and I only tried one of them... Partly because it was the only one that after an hour of searching I could find a working link for. Perhaps others are less stressfull, I don't know (I doubt it though. It's a fairly straightforward change).

*edit* Hello yoz, it's Sobek here :P
