Hey guys. My 8600 runs at 4Gh on air. According to speedfan both my cores under load maxed out at 50c and the CPU at 48. I don't have any crashes or BOSD during long hours of gaming. Are these temps okay for this CPU?

They are much better than okay, they're great!!

Thanks for that. Just out of interest,at what temp would the CPU have to reach before I start to worry?

Keep it under 60C and you'll be alright.

It can take temps higher than that but I'd never want my CPU to get that hot on a regular basis.

For a good overclock though, anything in the mid 50s under load is ok with me as long as its stable.

The new 45nm Core Duo reads the tempertures weird to me since I install a E8500 my idle temperture is at 41c and my E6600 would read 29c to 32c .Even at 4.2gigs running prime95 my tempertures hardly ever hit 50c,occourse my cpu voltage is just 1.29v.

I just had a session with FSX for about an hour, upon checking the temp it tells me that it's peaked at 60C. At stock speed it hovers just under 50C. I like FSX but not too sure about playing at those temps although I have never encountered any BSOD, slowdowns, random reboots etc. Every game plays fine an completely stable. I too have my CPUv locked at 1.29v.

You are well with in the recommended max of 72.4c stated by Intel.

I don't have my CPUv locked and CPU-Z reads it at 1.288 idle. I use HWMonitor for temps and at idle it always shows 40c with load peaks in the mid 50s. I also have 8 x 120MM fans in my case to go along with the CNPS9700LED.
