Pretty funny, but I don't think it's entirely accurate. That is, the games are designed with different goals in mind.

bah sazar you don't know...

honestly, both games aren't even out yet, and you are acting like you have played hl2.

(awaits for mod editting) - but whatever, some people are just stupid.

:)

I waited for appropriate edits before posting..

my post does not imply I have played either half life 2 or doom III... it implies that half life 2 is generating a lot of buzz for a game that has been barely promoted whereas we have heard for the longest time (over a year now) about doom III and its graphics and what not...

that cartoon just appears to capture THAT sentiment perfectly...

if you are reading more into my post than is there... that is not my problem...

I bet Doom 3's gameplay will rock as well as the graphics..

Sure, Single player isn't exactly ID's forte but I'm sure it's still going to be a blast to play.

I just hope it isn't going to be a "get red keycard for red door, get green keycard for green door" type of game like the rest of their single player FPS games.

You have got some things mixed up.

ID have not hyped Doom 3, GAMERS have hyped Doom 3. Okay, an Alpha was leaked, more hype, ID have released no more than 30 screenshots, not exactly hype, and one engine video was not even part of the game and maybe 2 gameplay videos. HL2 has released more in both forms. It's the hype caused by guys on forums posting screenshots and building their DOOM III system specs which has led to it being so hyped.

I beg to differ, iD has been dribbling out teasers on D3 for YEARS now!

Fans my arse, the fans just eat up whatever the gamesites feed 'em...which is directly spoonfed from iD.

Not to mention a bit of surprise benchmarking to **cough-cough*** "fairly" **cough-cough*** compare the two new top graphics cards.

Face it, iD has been whoring publicity on this puppy like a bad dog. They know the gameplay is gonna suck (again  ) and they need to build a huge interest factor to cash in on the initial sales. :(

please do point out exactly where I have said ID specifically has been promoting their product?

neither of my posts have anything to that effect...

doom III has been in the works and been [p]reviewed in so many mags over the past year it is ridiculous and in the meantime half life 2 has developed into the quiet giant as depicted by the cartoon...

perhaps you lads are reading too much into this... I was simply refering to the cartoon.. you know.. its supposed to be funny ?

I sorta agree..But how do you think they got to that point. ID has made some great games..I guess they can talk sh**..I still find myself playing their games years later..

Lets just cross our fingers and hope that DOOM 3 is fun..

I look at it this way.

Doom 3 = great engine and possibly a decent game

HL2 = Likely a great game and possibly a good engine

I'm also going to do a bit of logical guessing here....

HL came out in what '98? Quake 3 came out in '99 or 2000?

Valve has 5+ software engineers and programmers.

id has John Carmack.

Does that mean that it took a team of 5+ programmers around 5 years to do what Carmack did in 4 by himself?

If that's true, which is more impressive then?

mmm Half-Life team is , Carmak only made shadow engine no game play or cools stuff , Valve team made all that cool realistic stuff you can interact with all objects no other game have it and ITS HALF-LIFE story with SuperB AI and stuff , Doom 3 will be Shoot every zombie (brainless moveing box :p ) down Classic FPS just like original doom :o ;) but with uber graphics that is all

I find it odd ppl saying half-life2 will own doom3. They're both taking different approaches.

Doom3 is going for the complete lighting solution, whereas hl2 is focusing more on gameplay, and interaction, but with modest lighting systems. It still appears to use just static light maps, just with added character shadows.

Now what would be ace, would be a game like hl2 using the doom3 engine :)

Valve's hush-hush attitude towards HL2 was very effective. You'd be hard pressed to find any serious gamers that haven't been talking about it like mad for the past few weeks. As far as Doom 3 goes, the hype has been pouring in for well over a year now. I see it being one of those situations that I've been through before, the classic "Hype it like crazy, only to find that the best part was the anticipation" deal. It'll be over in a weekend of playing, and we'll be talking about Quake 4 and Doom 4. HL2, as it's shaping up, will have the same staying power of its predecessor.

Oh, and ID hasn't hyped Doom 3? Just have a look at this so-called "Q&A Session." More like a "Hype your product to death" session.

It seems pointless to speculate which PC game is going to be better. People have been whining about how bad computer games have been for the last few years. With these two huge titles coming out this year, why not just buy both and accept them as two different games? Games like these don't come around often... no sense in slandering one for the sake of... well, for the sake of something, I just don't get it. Aside from benchmark cheating, it seems like every other discussion on the internet is about Doom 3 vs. Half-Life 2. Whatever. I'm just glad two revolutionary games are coming out this year, and I'll wait to be the judge of which is better until they're both released.

I think Doom3 and Half-Life2 are going to be good but for different reasons. They both are using new technology but for different reasons. Everyone is probably right that its gonig to be a linear shooter. But the graphics are what people want.. cause look at it. Real time shadows, all lights can be shot out (carmack stated that at quakecon, i was there i heard it.), boxes can be shot around, and the graphics are quite nice. As for HL2 its about great scripted parts and things you wouldn't expect to happen.. happening. And it has cool features like being able to shoot wood into a pile of splinters and people can be slung around like dolls. Over all I think both games are going to be good but for different reasons. HL2 will still be a linear game probably just like Doom3 yet it will have more depth.

As for graphical realism.. neither are going for that so no one should say one looks to cartoony, etc. I think that no one shoulds be expecting something "new and spectacular" since nothing is going to be much different. These games are FPS linear games.. yeah they have new features but its not gonig to be something new and refreshing (remember Dues Ex.. that had spark with being able to do goals different. Although that game was basicly linear with multiple paths to get there.. and it didn't matter what you did through the whole game to get a different ending you just had to do the last mission differenty). But I am sure people will be dissapointed that a new type of game wasn't invented. Everyone was looking at Unreal 2 with anticipation and it just turned out to be a pretty game with a short straight forward shoot everything type of gameplay.
