Study Reveals That RTS Games Improve Adult Brains.

A new study, conducted on 40 adults in their 60s and 70s, revealed that playing RTS (Real Time Strategy) games causes significant improvements in tests of memory, reasoning and the ability to multi-task.

Volunteers were split into two groups; one of them played Rise Of Nations for a month and the other didn't. When tested, the RTS-playing group showed unquestionable gains in tests of memory, reasoning and the ability to multi-task.

Senior researcher Dr. Arthur F. Kramer, a professor of psychology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, said that the research results are "very promising", but warned that this is the first published study to suggest as much, so it's important not to overstate the findings.

Dr. Kramer believes that more research is needed to confirm and extend the findings. It's not clear, he noted, if other strategic games would have the same benefits, or if the effects seen in this study persist over time.

"Gaming is bad" is a misconception by people who have no idea about how gaming has progressed so far. RTS games improve thinking & FPS games improve responsiveness among many other positives of gaming as studies showed already.
Gaming can be bad only if it distracted you from your real life duties or took so much of your time that prevented you from doing something useful.

Exactly, it's simply about finding a balance in what you do.

Gaming is soooo GOOD for the brain it's not even funny !!

The potential for gaming to become a tool for brain development, emotional, physical,
logistical, and skill building isn't that far off..

There are soo many other ways we can use this technology besides
the most obvious, and the most fun.. entertainment.

For example.. the Wii.. even one year old and younger BABIES are playing the Wii and can do so just fine.
They get the concept and that type of interaction just didn't exist 5, let alone 50 years ago.

Those Wii babies are gonna be some smart kids..

Hell, and I thought the original Mario Bros. was killer..
