Well at least this review is done by brent and I don't really hate him :)

Looks pretty neck and neck for performance, I assume the IQ is better on the Ati. I thought it was an Ok review.

Both the Ati 9600 and the 5600 Ultra show good overclocking results, which is good for the mid range gamer to get a lot of bang for the buck. I think Brent was wiping away a tear at the loss of the 9500 Pro, but the 9600 should overtake it eventually when the process matures.

Regards

Andy

IQ is the same with the exception of AA.

Its nice to see that making a choice between the Radeon 9600pro and geforcefx 5600 ultra is as easy or a hard as making a toss.

Both cards perform pretty well and have nice IQ, ATI has the edge with AA tough, but the 5600 is faster in doom3.

No matter which one you choose, you won't be dissapointed.

Brent is a good guy. He has been very forthcoming and understanding just what nvidia's actions in 3dmark03 mean for other benchmarks. I applaud his astuteness.

Not to mention he brought us the first good FSAA tests from NV30. Brent does some good investigating :)

Anyone else notice that Nvidia updated the specs of their Geforce Fx 5600 Ultra on their site(due to the 50 MHz jump) I found it funny how they only changed it in one place yet they forget about it in other spots where the specs are listed

From Brent's fine-arsed review:
We found that to match the competitions image quality "Application Mode" had to be selected which caused a big hit in performance. NVIDIA’s latest official driver dubbed Detonator FX version 44.03 fixes these image quality issues in all GeForceFX series of cards and also increases performance. We are hearing of a newer official version to be released soon.

Uhm...."We are hearing of a newer official version to be released soon"?

Does this mean I should toss me GF4 in Blue? :eek2:

BTW-Brent ROCKS with reviews, I have nothing at all but good things to say about Brent...'cept for where he works. ;)

If I wasn't getting NV35 then this new revised FX5600U would be my next choice. Very nice VC.

Don't forget about this other 5600 review. Should be a good card unless you want to play dx9 titles.

Ugly and slow with dx9. I'll pass.

I only had a real quick look through the hardocp review.. I don't quite get a couple of things though.

There is two different cards both called a 5600ULTRA??

They compare an overclocked 5600ULTRA to stocked clocked 9500 & 9600's?

someone please tell me this is not true.

I'm not trying to pick on anyone here.. but how the hell are we supposed to know what we are buying? the new one or the old one? Shouldn't they be named differently?

you would think nvidia would be nice enough to rename it to the 5700 instead of keeping the 5600 name, which now will confuse everyone and people may end up buying up the old inventory

yer, they could atleast add an "SE" to the end or something.

I think you'll have to look at the specs (on the box). The new Ultra will be rated higher. Someone know the core/mem of the new and the old?

Another review of the new FX 5600 ultra by Firing Squad. (http://firingsquad.gamers.com/hardware/e-vga_e-geforce_fx_5600_ultra/default.asp)

Umm... he mentioned that the old Ultras never made it to retail, and i hope that these are actually at the $200 price point, i see standard 5600's for that price, nVIDIA should have more control over pricing.

thats strange. There were and still are 5600ULTRA 256MB cards for sale here.

Pretty good review. :)
Nice to see Nvidia making it hard to choose
from the 9600 and 5600. :D

I think the new 5600ultra is a sweet card.
I would own one. Well, if i did not have a 5800ultra. ;)

Sell your 5800 ultra, get the new 5600 ultra, it will be a great downgrade. :D

This card sounds intruiging, even to me.....
Though I fight thoughts of it, Nvidia was my first true love....
I used to have all the fancy Nvidia wallpapers, and custom Nvidia screen icons....
I used to go to Nvidia'a home page and just read stuff...
I bet I had at least ten different hsf combo's on my Diamond Viper 550...(tnt)....
Memories........I love em':luv:

Then I bought an MX440:fu:

Even though I'm an admitted fanATic now, I'm still fond of my Nvidia memories.
**EDIT**
I feel like a complete dumbass now......
