"8:51AM ATI chosen by largest motherboard co's for its integrated graphics chipset (ATYT) 6.53: The Economic News in Taiwan reports Asustek, Gigabyte and Microstar International, which are the largest manufacturers of motherboards in Taiwan, will all use integrated graphic chipsets from ATI with the Radeon 9200 graphics core. This is a negative for NVDA given the co's lack of a bus license for both the Pentium 4 and Pentium-M. The bus license provides the ability to connect to Intel's microprocessor. A Sterling analyst remains bullish on ATYT's prospects this morning in light of this announcement."
Heh-heh-heh, go find the link your own damned self ya smarmy smarty-pants nVidia lovers! :p

Good show ATi, now I see why Mr.Orton is so bloody pleased with ATi's prospects for a successful quarter. :)

You can't score a design win much bigger than Asus, that's for sure!!

You know....this is the sort of thing that you would think would be on Asus' and ATI's websites...
Translation: I don't trust the Inquirer. Find another link.

Pagh. Y'all believe nVidia about 3dm2k3 and give 'em all the time in the world to make-up some lame-arsed excuse but the second I have some happy news about the honorable competition you just scream "FIND ANOTHER LINK YOU LYING BAG-O-FUDGE!!!!"
j/k ;) :p
It's just breaking news, there will be a press release on it in a little bit. ;)

What are you talking about?
I don't believe the Inquirer. I never pay attention to anything on their website. It's that simple.
And the problem is, this looks exactly like a press release. If it's real (which it probably is...but I still don't like the Inquirer), then it was probably released early.

Well it's not appeared on EETimes or DigiTimes yet and they are ususally the first to bring this kind of story to the world.
Maybe it is amongst the rumoured stories, like Gigabyte and MSI merging, or nvidia getting access to Intel bus licensing via a deal with IBM etc etc.

Sorry Chalnoth, I was just joking around. I meant no disrespect, just a bit of levity. ;)
I'll go dig up a link for ya to make it up to ya, as soon as I shampoo the dog piss out of the carpet in the hallway and living room.

man this almost tempts me to get an intel system.
I don's see why they wouldn't lets face it dual PC3200 + DX 8.1 video will own Intels chipsets because it only supports PC2700 + 533MHz FSB P4's and Intel has decided to leave the intergrated work to Ati with them now being close Partners.

I heard a rumor that I haven't been able to confirm. It had to do with Intels excess .13 fab since production cutback on the P3-T's..??

Well, I just have to say, since there hasn't yet been an official press release, I think this should be taken for what it really is: rumor.
Not that I really doubt Asus would build an ATI-based motherboard, but with no official confirmation, this is still a rumor.

there was a rumor going around a long time ago saying Asus would make ATI cards, and at the time Asus said they had no intention of leaving Nvidia... I wonder if this is just another rumor

CHalnoth knows that he most likely read the piece yesterday when it was posted.
sorry if this has been posted already... i just read this today, its from its dated 5/28/03
According to The Economic News in Taiwan quoted by In Play, ASUSTeK, Gigabyte Technology and MicroStar International will utilise ATI Technologies next-generation chipset with integrated RADEON 9200-class graphics.
This is definitely a very positive news for ATI Technologies who launches its code-named RS300 chipset for Intel Pentium 4 and Prescott processors with 400, 533 or 800MHz Quad Pumped Bus and the Hyper-Threading technology support quite soon. I remind you that ATI RADEON IGP RS300 features dual-channel PC2700 and PC3200 memory support as well as integrates graphics core based on the RADEON 9000 and RADEON 9200 technology. Reportedly, ATI’s RS300 may be as fast as i875P “Canterwood” or even faster.
ASUS, MSI and Gigabyte are the largest manufacturers of mainboards who make mainboards both for retail as well as OEM markets. In case ATI supplies sufficient quantities of its chipsets, it will have a very positive impact on Markham, Ontario-based ATI’s revenue. Keep in mind that additionally ATI Technologies has license to build chipsets for the Pentium M processors, so, we may expect the same vendors to adopt such core-logic as well.
/Edit: whoops just noticed the other post... anyway here is another link to more info:

Merged.
It would have to be one rock solid stable chipset to make me switch from an Intel chipset.

Yep, and it probably won't be the first time around. It took nVidia two interations to get it right, and the nForce2 still isn't quite as good as it could be (esp. Linux support). How long will it take ATI?
