Damn it, I am getting SO sick of this quitting/stressing-out/smoking for a bit/quitting again/stressing-out/smoking cycle!!!!

One of these days I'm gonna get that damned nicotine monkey off me back for good, but it ain't looking like it's gonna be today. :(

(BTW-No, me stressing out is entirely unrelated to the video card world...it's "the Mom-thing" that's killing me again. Video cards and such are just a distraction/diversion for me. )

Hey Man I quit eight months ago and STILL have urges. I used those patches they helped. Some days around here I feel like I could smoke a pack an hour. :D

I quit about 6-7 years ago when my wife first became pregnant and have been quitting ever since.

I use the patch a LOT! Hell, I can tell ya the different flavors between the brands....and I'll probably be back on them again next week. While I do think they're a great tool to help ya quit, I kind of use them as a substitute more or less I think....I've been on/off the patch pretty much constantly over the last 6-7 years.

Well, it beats smoking around the kids! (BTW-I only smoke outside and always wash me hands & face after a cig, me wife is allergic to cigarette smoke.)

Thanks for the support Mike, I'll beat it one of these days...but not until the smokes I picked up run out which won't probably be 'til after next Monday. ;)

Hey, I gave up and started drinking Absinthe instead. Now I smoke cigars and chase little pink elephants around the living room.

20 years ago my dad threw his out of the car window and hasn't smoked since.

I have to say though, that giving up is something that plays on my mind a lot. Smoking has killed both my parents, my dad when I was fifteen and my mother just before christmas. So it's definately not good, but I just can't kick it and the Absinthe...

Patches helped me quit once, but I started again stupidly.

I also had acupuncture too once, just to get the afternoon off work, and it made me quit for two solid weeks. Before this I would have laughed so hard if anyone tried to tell me acupuncture worked, but I know for sure I had zero intentions of giving up smoking when I had it, yet it stopped me smoking for two full weeks.

Your just trying to get me in trouble with Mr. Flibble by going off topic. ;) How come I don't know what Absinthe is? I want to chase little pink elephants around instead of fanboys and Canucks after my cake.

Absinthe is a wonderful spirit that is banned in most of europe. It used to be made from wormwood and other nasty things, and it was drunk with laundanum (spell?) a kind of opiate. It's ~50-75% by volume (double that for proof) and it gets you very, very drunk, very, very quickly. But in a nice floaty kind of way.

If anybodies seen the film "from hell", the bit where Johnny Depp has a drink and he puts a sugar cube in it and puts a few drops of laudanum on it, burns it a bit, and then drinks it. THATS Absinthe.

Strangely enough you can get it imported in Britain, sometimes you can get better than average stuff as well :D

Oh, suddenly chasing little pink elephants around has lost its appeal. Maybe I'll just send Gib a bottle for his birthday.:afro2: Thanks for the heads up.

You don't even know when my birthday is. :p

I won't say no if a bottle happens to show up at my door with your name on it though, heh. :smoking2:

I quit by cutting down how much I smoked over about 12/13 months. Yes, it took time, but I've never smoked since. For some years I'd have dreams about smoking, but in the dream I always felt guilty for doing it. Now I don't even have that. I didn't use patches or anything, because I didn't want any stupid excuses for starting again (like "I could only quit last time because of patches anyway so I must still want it.")

I think the first step is to really want to stop. If you're not at that point I would expect it to be harder because you won't be as motivated. The fact the patches aren't working for you must be worrying. I'm not sure how effective hypnosis is and can't comment on that.

All I did was cut down as and when I felt I could handle having one less cigarette a day. I finished off by jumping from 2 to zero. I hope you can get there, and getting there without patches is rewarding.

Good luck

Nah, it don't worry me any. The patches work just spiffy as a replacement for cigarettes, I just think I've become accustomed to all that nicotine raging thru me system.

The thing that SCARES me is I think I start smoking again just to get back on the patch, I think I like it better than smoking since it's a heavier/steadier nicotine rush.

So I'm actually smoking right now as a substitute for my patch habit...

Well, first step then seems to be to dump the patches. They sound like they're making the situation worse, and you're spending a lot more money getting nowhere.

Thinking about it more your first step really should be some professional advice. You need to get a real handle on it and I doubt you're going to get the advice/help you need on a geek messageboard!

Good luck.
