View Full Version : Gainward GF4 Ti 4600, oc'ing core speed lowers 3dmark...

I am trying to push every last bit of performance out of my fairly new Gainward Ti 4600 card.

But for some reason, whenever I raise the core above stock 300 mhz, I get less performance in 3dmark. I tried different speeds and everytime it's just slower.

Any suggestions? New bios maybe?

You're seeing a fairly common occurrence. When pushed too far, many cards drop performance rather than fail outright.

I've overclocked perhaps 75 video cards in the last year, and maybe 1/3 of them dropped in performance when I pushed them above the sweet spot, instead of crashing.

How can the core be pushed too far if its at stock? Not even 1 mhz overclock, thats strange...

Usually Gainward cards are good overclockers, but you may have a GPU that's on the line between Ti4400 and Ti4600 quality.

I just did a few 3dMark runs, and it seems anything other than 300 mhz core gives me less performance (higher OR lower). If it was on the line between Ti 4400 and Ti 4600, wouldn't the sweet spot be under 300 mhz?

This is all very confusing, I can't help but think that maybe its the bios, or something else like that. I've never seen a card that can't oc core by 1 mhz without losing performance, and then lose performance if dropping the core by 1 mhz :/

Maybe it's just a freak card that does 300 mhz, and 300 mhz only? (For optimal performance)

see if performance in games decrease too. Nice ram overclock, how much did that help too? Your score sounds low for a ti4600 and barton at 2.5GHz and such fast ram. others are breaking 16k easy
