View Full Version : 4870X2 and Cat AI to enable or disable for xfire.
Hey all I have a couple of questions regarding my 4870X2.
Does setting Cat AI off disable an actual core on a 4870X2? And if so do you use standard or advance?
The reason I ask is if I run a quick Vantage benchie after a new driver install I get a lot of graphics corruption with it on,and disable makes It go away this is with 8.12.
And does the crossfire splash screen or logo come on when crossfire is working because I never see the logo or anything with regards to crossfire come on when I startup a game btw I have it set to come up in the sys tray.
Thanks in advance for your responses.

The splash screen can be enabled by left-clicking on the ATI icon in your Taskabar, at least for the Cat 8.12 drivers.

Disabling Catalyst AI disables Crossfire on the X2 cards but it doesn't "turn off" the second GPU.

What SlaWter said. Crossfire will not function on the X2 or with any combination of ATi cards with CAT AI off.
It's a useful thing to do to the X2 in titles where Crossfire actually causes a performance hit vs a single GPU.
Well....I guess I was under the impression that I needed to have CAT AI disabled in order to get the best IQ. I always assumed that if I wanted the best possibly image quality it needed to be off as that’s how it always was for me with other ATI cards.
So I enable on standard, and fired up Quake wars but the tree are now black, and I get other anomalies’ are occurring like the mining laser on a particular map being one color Orange etc.
I now get the crossfire image on the top right as well. But I now am majorly disappointment with these graphic corruptions any ideas on a fix? Advanced is even worst than standard.
I tried triple buffering based on a suggestion for another forum member with no luck.
I tried every possible combination of things to get it working with no luck.
In Qwars I get black colored trees Orange mining laser, and a bunch of other anomolies. It strange cause this didnt happen on my 8800GTX which now resides in my kids box.
The fact I get these graphical glithches is a shame on my favorite game to play, and is jacked using my 4870X2 (Qwars) or have to resort to disabling the second GPU really is a bummer because I liked the card a lot.
It doesnt happen on all games but its a shame it happens at all. I decided I didnt want to wait for a fix since the game has been out awhile, and I dont have the desire to send in tickets to ATI/AMD what I want is a product that works, and disabling the second GPU is not an alternative for me. So with that said I decided to return it back to the Egg which always takes care of me, and swappped it out for a GTX280 plus I got back close to 200 back in the exchange anyways maybe for me the best thing to do is own a single core graphics card and call it a day.
