Just tried Uninstall + Driver Sweeper. 1st attempt I ended up with 2x nVidia Control Panel context items. Next attempt I did get a clean install but it was identical, no 1440 mode.
I will attempt to add a custom resolution.
By the way, I was using Driver Sweeper v1.5.5 on Vista 32 SP1 and it displayed errors trying to delete 2 registry entries.
Driver Sweeper never worked completely for me. It would throw up random errors and not completely remove everything. Driver Cleaner has worked with 100% reliability for me. It's a pay program, but the time it's saved has more than made up for the cost.

Never had Vista auto install any video driver except standard vga..
Using Driver Sweeper is also standard practice for me whenever installing drivers.
it will only autoreinstall if your previous driver install wasn't uninstalled, and you overwrote it.
in that case all drivers that shipped with OS, and all drivers that were installed (and later not uninstalled) are kept in %SystemDrive%\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRep ository

1.5.5 is not a great version, and it's something I've been telling for a while now. Registry cleaning is not working properly and x64 support isn't perfect (Even though 1.5.5 is much better for x64 than 1.5.0).
I'm currently developing a new build of DS which is completely rewritten, and all I can say right now is that it's working great. I've been testing the cleaning for a while now and there are no more weird errors and other problems.
Development is far enough to post some screenshots :)

ETA? No idea, but I hope to have a beta version up soon.

I'm using 1.5.5 should I stop?

Driver Sweeper has been great for me(no weirdness whatsoever) and it's good to see that a new version is coming along! :)

No, even though it gives some error messages it doesn't do any harm to your computer (They are just error messages that it can't be removed). The next version will never give any of these weird error messages, unlike 1.5.5.
1.5.5 ain't a bad version, but registry cleaning isn't working as it should be (File cleaning should be OK, and for 99% registry cleaning too (I've never had errors myself with registry cleaning), and x64 system support isn't working great.

These are the only drivers that solve the blackout with AA bug in BF2142 and still play UT3 without a kick to desktop in Warfare mode.
How was your Experience with this 185.20 Beta.
I am currently low on cash so thought would try the GTA4 on my old system rather than going in for a new gaming machine which i dream of
Existing Hardware P4 2.8HT +200GB Sata + 2GB DDR + 256 GF7300LE + vista ultimate
With 185.20 although the Game was not smooth but the lower the resolution and antialiasing off i could move and feel like playing,
Earlier game would not show option menu, and the RADAR whenever display setting was changed, but with 181.22_geforce_winvista_32bit_english_beta i was able to play a few stages after Over-clocking a little bit using riva tuner.
With 185.20, after few tweaks i was able to fix problems which arised after moving from 181.22
Now the game has smoother operation but still it seems to be a RAM EATER.
Just borrowed FARCRY2 from a lawyer friend and WOOOHA this game runs fine on vista and even on medium settings (screenshot attached)
I know i certainly and badly need to upgrade the hardware iam ok with this, but i would certainly be looking for details on what specs would let GTA4 play smoothly with decent resolution and world details, I don't want to get into frustrations like, Oh my god, my new hardware is also insuffcient for this GTA4 :headexplode:
Thanks for your time,
Manu

Simple and cost effective:
1) Xbox 360
2) Xbox 360 VGA cable
Hook up the Xbox to your PC monitor and play to your heart's content. Easy way to play the game and far cheaper than upgrading your PC to play the same game at a decent clip.

gta4, to be future ready basic specs is quad, 4gb+ of ram and decent video card. If you need to be cost effective I would recomend a Phenon system.

GTA IV on a 360 via VGA cable looks absolutely horrendous!!! I did that for a few weeks and posted some screenshots here. You'd be better to wait and buy a decent PC than do this! Trust me. I ended up playing GTA IV on a 13" TV due to the low res textures it looked better on a 13" TV @ 480P than on a 24" @ 1080P via VGA.
!!DO NOT DO THIS!!
EDIT this is why -

Anyone using this driver with a GTX295? How is it?
about to try it with my EVGA 295 (ignore what my sig says i have now)
i mainly am trying them for GTA
This driver seems to be the BEST SO FAR. For example, using my UT3 benchmark tool I get 226FPS using 185.20 driver. After a clean install of 181.22, I get 207FPS. 185.20's are keepers for me, however I have some broken games from it.
