Any idea when this might happen and in what price range?

I hope it might be arund £100 mark, but it might be just a bit too optimistic. The only point is that this should be a relatively cheap processor (thinking Radeon 9000 replacement in the long run), and ATI should be able to sell them at a friendly price...

I still have a Leadtek GF4200Ti and I might be able to upgrade some components soon... one of the major considerations for me is price - £100 OK - £150 a bit too expensive.

Isn't the 9500 a better card? Grab it while it's hot, for a price between the two you just quoted ;)

I have no idea on pricing, but I can see the 9600 being the same as this or a little more expensive, due to being a new part.

Well if I knew that this was a moddable 9500 than I wouldn't have any doubts, but most likely the days of those are gone.

What is the second question in my mind - what will R 9600 be clocked at ( not the pro version), I would assume that the bios will have to be replaced in order to overclock, still it could be a good overclocker like the pro, and if that is the case well it will be a no brainer which one should be the " mid range value champ" ... is there any reviews or specs for that card?

The 9600 non pro's havent hit the market yet.
As for 9600Pro's coming to the UK, expect Hercules to deliver.
9600Pro's and 9500Pro's are the same price where I live in the U.S.

The 9600Pro is being priced £145 and up. Try Komplett (www.komplett.co.uk), Aria (www.aria.co.uk), Savastore (www.savastore.co.uk) etc.

While the Hercules cards are supposed to be good, they're still essentially reference design and cost around £30 more in the UK :-\

I know you asked about the 9600Pro, but if u feel you can't stretch to that, Brent at [H] seems to be of the opinion that the 9500Pro is actually a better card (tho not for overclocking). You can still pick up 9500Pro's at Komplett (http://www.komplett.co.uk/k/ki.asp?action=info&p=29009&t=278&l=2&AvdID=1&CatID=24&GrpID=1&s=pl) for £133 :)

The 9500Pro has 8 pipelines Vs 4 pipes on the 9600Pro.

The 9600Pro seems to overclock well, enough to compensate for the missing pipes, but it depends on whether you intend to O/C or not.

..oops, just noticed, are you talking about a 9600 non-pro ? I wasn't aware of any coming to market, and I guarantee a 9500Pro would be well worth the extra money ;)

hmmm, too expensive you can buy a R9700 non pro for that much... but how much can you expect from 2.8 ns memory? 350 mhz?
