For the past week here at nV News, we've been having a blast sitting on our butts playing video games. Why? Well, for those who attended NVISION 08 theres a good chance you've atleast heard of NVIDIA's stereoscopic 3D gaming. Now its your turn. Today NVIDIA offically announced their GeForce 3D Vision that lets you play any PC title in true 3D. Curious yet?

Did you try the 3D glasses with normal 60 hz monitors? Is it even possible to get 3D effects with this type of monitor?

We didn't try that, I'm fairly certain it wouldn't or at least work as intended. The only downside currently is you've got to upgrade monitors if you don't have a compatible LCD or DLP TV. However, we didn't test it but they say its compatible with any CRT over 100hz.

Thanks Dave. Its cool tech to have....I would love to see a demo around a computer mall in Hong Kong. Double bonus coming up.... :D

Its definitely something badass to have and for showing off to friends, but its a minimum of $599 (http://www.nvidia.com/object/GeForce_3D_Vision_Main.html) investment for the glasses and monitor. The glasses MSRP at $199

So it's Vista only?

Kinda lame also such a high spec machine is required to keep FPS up. ::(:

And I also don't get why they didn't add support for 60Hz monitors as that would easily increase the amount of potential customers tenfold(wouldn't give you the best experience, but it would be better than nothing). :screwy:

I believe they don't support 60Hz because the technology simply doesn't work with that low of a refresh rate. The glasses will flicker and make you take them off in a hurry.

Well the technology behind this supports it, but it might not give you the best experience(but to some people 30Hz is smooth enough).

Just read an article about this at Anandtech. I'd love to see what it looks like. I don't think you can really describe it into words. The biggest problems for me are that I would probably suffer from motion sickness, and you probably can't wear those with glasses.

Not that this would be a cheaper setup or anything, but I wonder if their glasses would still work with 2 DLP projectors. I've read about using 2 projectors displaying the two images one after the other onto the same screen. This way it's still 60hz or more for each eye.

MikeC and I are both 4-eyed nerds and the glasses fit over our regular frames just fine. There's also a selection of nose pieces, they've put some good thought into it.

Would this work on my Samsung 120Hz LCD HDTV? I'd have to use a DVI to HDMI converter though.

"Why not use a 120 Hz LCD TV and the 3D Vision glasses in a theater room? According to Nvidia, none of them include the dual-link DVI inputs needed for 120 Hz, and their HDMI ports only accept a 60 Hz signal. Thus, your options are truly limited when it comes to choosing a compatible display. "

I think I found my answer

Is the 3D technology/quality anywhere in comparison to IMAX 3D? Beowulf 3D was probably the most impressive & intense 3D I've ever seen :afraid::headbang:

I got it and the 3D is excellent :D The only thing I've noticed is that it's more of a depth thing rather than things coming OUT of the monitor at you.

I can't handle this LCD monitor for 2D gaming though :( Gotta to figure out how to get my 102lb 24" CRT plugged back in for that, lol.
