I've found just the opposite. The x64 version runs extremely well for me.

...and how long were you running the Windows 7 build 7000 x86 beta for?

Is there a legit download available anywhere else other than msdn and technet? I highly doubt the beta would be on my msdn academic account.

Can't see it on mine.

Yea, not on mine either. I don't ever remember them putting a beta on there.

same here but I find the x86 to be alot quicker. Also IE in x64 was crapping out alot with "the application has stopped responding" this was on a new, fresh install too.

Just moved from x86 to x64 and the x64 has felt a bit faster to me. :) There's not a big difference between the two versions and they're both much faster than vista(and that's the only thing that counts)! :D

+1,000,000 yea, agreed.

Correct, the difference between the two of them is marginal. Also, x64 obviously allows me to ultilize all of my memory. However, I haven't experienced any problems with IE8 in the x64 version. I've been running the x64 version since Wednesday.

Windows 7
Over the past few years, you've asked us to make some changes to Windows. We listened closely. Now it's time to share an early look at how we've used your feedback. Windows 7 is faster, more reliable, and makes it easier to do what you want. Both the everyday things and the killer "is that really possible?" things. Dig into this site to see what's coming. Want to try the Beta? Come back the afternoon of January 9. And remember—this is just a preview. There's more to come.

So where do we go to download the beta? It's nowhere on that page.

If you download from Microsoft, do they provide you with a valid key to use until August 2009?

Thanks for your interest in the Windows 7 Beta. The volume has been phenomenal -- we’re in the process of adding more servers to handle the demand. We’re sorry for the delay and we’ll re-post the Beta as soon as we can ensure a quality download experience.

I finally have mine installing right now. It doesn't seem to like IDE drives. Grabbed a sata drive to install on and it showed up in the list without having to load anything.

Where'd you get your key from?

I get it from inside of my Technet subscription. You should be able to get a key from the link Nekro posted.

FYI you don't need a key to install it either. You only need the key if you want to activate it.

I get this msg "Thanks for your interest in the Windows 7 Beta. The volume has been phenomenal -- we’re in the process of adding more servers to handle the demand. We’re sorry for the delay and we’ll re-post the Beta as soon as we can ensure a quality download experience." when I go to that link. Don't have a TechNet subscription though. Just wanted to try and get a key before I installed it on my other PC. I'm getting too ansy now so I'm probably just going to install it now.:o

Just install it. You can always add a key later to activate it. It says I have 30 days to activate. I usually wait a few weeks anyway before I activate so I know that I like the install. Otherwise I just reinstall it.

Here is a couple of pics.

Device manager looks good. It found all of my hardware except for the creative sound card.

I didn't know that paint was going to include the Ribbon from Office 07 either, so that kind of threw me a little. PNG was added as the default option now for paint.

The UAC seems to be toned down quite a bit. It has only popped up once when I was trying to install the creative driver. Driver didn't install though because their installer doesn't recognize Vista 7 so it won't let you finish the installation.

Thats what I did and it works. However, surround sound with X-Fi cards is currently broken.

Thanks for the tip. It sounds weird running in Vista compatibilty mode.
