OK, looks like I might have a problem here...

I just popped a BFG GTX295 on my Rampage II x58 (replacing an EVGA GTX280), and the fan behavior is really strange...

GPU temps are at 105C (WAY too high) and the fan doesn't kick on until it hits 106C. It does this in short bursts until it's down to 104 or 105, then kicks off again (completely). It repeats this endlessly regardless of whether i'm in 2D or 3D...

Bad card or software interference? (I have both speedfan and the nvidia performance tools installed, and will be uninstalling them in the interests of testing of course).

Thoughts?

Are you using WHQL 181.20 ?

Yep.

And it looks like I was right - I uninstalled the nvidia performance/update software and now all is well.

So - word to the wise folks - if you have the nvidia system tools installed and your fan's only kicking in at 105C, uninstalling that will fix it :)

For what it's worth, they released a new version of the nvidia tools that fix this issue :)
