Dark Void is a ground-based shooter. It's an in-air dogfighter. And it's a vertical shooter / cover game, too. These are not descriptions of different levels that comprise the game, but a single stage of many that feature all of the above play types. On the ground, the title draws comparisons to Gears of War with its simple shooter controls. The trigger button shoots Will's weapons, which range from the standard machine-gun to the disintegrator gun, all of them upgradeable. Some of the upgrades are subtle, adding secondary functionality -- for instance, a delayed radius blast for the disintegrator gun eventually becomes available. Others transforms weapons into something else altogether, according to Capcom.

My short time with Dark Void proved highly enjoyable and I'm are eager to play more of the game. The slick fluidity of the PC version admittedly spoke to my sensibilities so I'll definitely want to see if the less smooth console versions ultimately stack up. The concept is sound. The controls well implemented. And the cross-blending of gameplay genres seamless. Capcom could have another winner on its hands.

As a Gears of war fan, I can't wait for this game which is like the PC version of GoW but done properly and with fantastic additions! :) It is missing blood, though.

Release date: Q2 2009.

Meh. Reminds me of Ironman.

The main character looks like the one in dead space.

Please explain how GoW wasn't done properly? This game looks pretty good, but it reminds me more of Halo than GoW.

The performance on PC wasn't satisfying.

Edit:
:( After searching it is not an exclusive so no guarantee on being a proper PC game.

The performance on PC wasn't satisfying.

On my piddly little DDR-2 equipped 9500GT (and even this version is downclocked from other full-sized DDR based 9500GT's which are gimped themselves compared to the GDDR3 versions), I get significantly better frame rates than the 360 version at 1280x720, and it looks better too. GoW's main problem was its highest texture memory setting required cards with more than 512MB and it stuttered like crazy, but one notch down on "high" and there are very few stutters. It's actually one of the least demanding 360->PC ports after you take that into account.

Watched the video, didn't look too bad, seems like Gears of War crossed with Tribes:Vengeance. To be honest I thought GOW got quite tedious after a short while, but if this game is able to be a bit more interesting and varied than that I might check it out. Will wait for reviews first though.

I really hope Capcom dont make a mess of the port, DarkVoid has a lot of potential. If they stick as much effort into porting DarkVoid as they did with LostPlanet then i will be happy. :)

This game will be a day one purchase for the simple fact that these dudes made Crimson Skies.
