Just got this cpu. Still tryin to find max for 3Ds benching with GTX295.

So far max is 4.7~4.8Ghz benchable with single stage...

Nice! What kind of cooling are you using and how are your temps?

Its Single Stage.
Temp. around -40~-30ish C loaded @ 1.7ish vcore.
It needs more cooling to go beyond 5Ghz stable benching.

That's impressive to say the least. What kind of voltage can that thing take though? I'd be a bit nervous @ 1.7+.

>1.75Vcore won't yield any Mhz upward, at least with this kind of cooling.

I'm still learning oc of this new AMD system. Its a matter of finding stable NB freq and HT link freq combo My last one was FX60 with crazy cold bug.
I think CPU and memory scaling won't be a problem for now.

Wow very impressive overclocking, thank you for found that great K10stat tool, without that tool I would hate to go into BIOS and switch on/off Cool n Quiet and manually set CPU multipler all the time.

I just have some fun with the tool, tried 3.2, 3.4 and 3.5GHz no problem at 1.4V on SuperPI. Will try higher later. (nana2)

Thanks to Team Japan / CAL930 for their K10stat oc tool.

hey there :)

not bad for SS :D

Did 3.6GHz at 1.4V no problem but Vista BSOD during SuperPI on 3.7GHz at 1.4V. Tried again when I upped the voltage and ran SuperPI again, it completed successfully on 3.7GHz at 1.45V. :D I am still surprised that the CPU is still cool at 40C at full load, wonder should I try 3.8GHz? :headexplode:

Wow. 40*C at full load? At 1.45v? Flipping impressive! :D

I don't know, the more I hear about the PhenomIIs... the more I'm tempted to scrap my Q6600 and get an AM3 PhenomII when they come out. Soooo tempting! :D

Go for it Athlon XP1800:beer:
This X4 940 reminds me of your name.

@Eva, its fun with this new AMD chip. I probly can bake a cake, order some pizza and get some beer while benching with cascade @ -100ish C without worrying about cold bug:)

06 cpu test...

Awesome results, these chips really are good overclockers, especially compared to the old phenoms. You'd really see a big performance boost with both higher clocks and higher NB/L3 freq.

DANG!!! 4.8Ghz is a 62% overclock :afraid:

Just speculation, maybe AMD plans on releasing much faster (eg 3.6ghz + stock) chips with AM3. Therefor they left headroom with the AM2+ chips so when they release the chips on AM3 that there will be more of a reason for enthusiasts upgrade. Wouldn't really surprise me, and it'd be a pretty solid idea.

Last night I had another go attempted 3.8GHz but BSOD so tried again with CPU voltage upped a bit to 1.45V and passed SuperPI. Then tried 3.9GHz at 1.45V but BSOD again and I upped CPU voltage to 1.5V and finally it passed SuperPI stable at 50C load. Tested the magic 4GHz with SuperPI but sadly it BSOD at 1.5V and tried again with 1.55V but it still BSOD, also tried raised HT bus from 1800MHz to 2010MHz from Nvidia control panel didnt helped when it hard locked and sometime BSOD.

I am gave up attempted the magic 4GHz for now so the stable highest oc I achieved is 3.9GHz. Hope somebody here will give me some suggestions how to achieve 4GHz without BSOD and hard locked. :headexplode:

WOOHOO I finally achieved the magic 4GHz!!! (nana2) :jumping:(daz):nanahump::balloon:

It strange to achieved 4GHz managed to got it ran SuperPI 1M and opened IE8 stable by using 1.8GHz HT bus and selected 1.5125V but days ago I tried 1.5500V as it crashed but CPU-Z reported 1.58V. Oh well must be my lucky day today on 20th just in time for President Obama inauguration. :)

I will try to get a screenshot if I can get it stable when turn off Cool n Quiet in BIOS. Days ago when I turned off it failed to loaded Vista when HT bus set to 220MHz so it worked fine when reset back to 200MHz.

4GHz is not stable enough when turn off Cool n Quiet, pity I cant take a screenshot of it. :(

It great to experienced 4GHz once, 3.9GHz is stable enough while many other unlucky people only get to 3.5GHz max stable enough on very expensive motherboards with AMD 790FX chipset so I must be lucky to bought cheap 92 motherboard with Nforce 750A chipset. :)

That's darn impressive. What's the highest clock you can do four hours of Prime 95 with?

Ditto. Especially after I saw a review that indicated they're very good for gaming and compiling, which are the two things I do that stress my CPU. The only problem is I'm still pretty happy with my Q6600 and I've had it less than a year so I'm disinclined to replace it already.

3Ds....After all those Nforce 790 mobo with Intel cpu + AMD graphic card combos, reversed combo is more fun.

Very impressive. We've been talking a little bit around here about putting a new AMD system together for comparison. Plan on upgrading the memory soon? :)

AM3 with ddr3 will be interesting:)

I wonder about Nforce 780a sli mobo? Is any friend here run it?
Thanks.

Same here. If I can manage, I'm going to get an AM3 rig. :D
