Artic Silver 5 or Zalman STG-1. I've been using the Zalman stuff lately as it is easier to apply. If you need something that is non conductive AS Ceramique is still the best way to go.

I've always heard good things about Artic Silver.

I have only used it once and it worked nicely. I haven't used anything else so I really can't compare it to anything else.

how would the zalman one be easier to apply?

I'm using the Arctic Silver Ceramique, seems to work just as well.

I used Arctic MX-2, it better than Arctic Silver 5.

STG-1 doesn't come in a tube, it's almost like nail polish.

I'm using it right now on my processor as it's easy to spread it across all of the cpu and keep it thin.

TBH all the 'top' brands give good results with only 2 or 3 degrees between them at the most.

Diamond based would be the best but you still have to make your own (http://inventgeek.com/Projects/DiamondGrease/overview.aspx)

AS5, but I also quite like Céramique (http://www.arcticsilver.com/ceramique.htm). It's thinner and seems to spread it's self better. Similar performance to AS5.

Isn't Ceramique best for subzero? I use Arctic Cooling MX-2. It's slightly better than AS5, and does't require reapplication. AS5, on the other hand, needs to be reapplied about once a year as its performance degrades over time.

WOW! That is kind of astonishing!

Deltas of 10C at idle and 16C at load! In comparison with AS5!

I have The Zalman stuff on my current CPU/Cooler. It came with the 9700! :D

It is more or less like applying nail polish, neat. :) The performance is not far off the other compounds which are out there and as reapplying stuff goes I don't think the performance has degraded over about a year.

I used Zalman STG-1 before as well. Performance is pertty good actually, but the unused leftover in the bottle degrades very fast.

ORLY?

I can't really comment as I have not used it more than once... one the same setup.

I reused mine several times without issue. I've actually had it the other way around where my AS5 went bad. The STG-1 you can shake and mix it back up if needed, the AS5 you can't really do that.

I have like 2 syringes of AS5 lying around that I got free with the 2 motherboard upgrades I made last year. So I am pretty much tied to it. good thing it doesnt dry up even if left open!!!

I got a bottle that stop working after about 9 months. Temps were like 10C higher, color and texture were also changed, lighter and less sticky.
