EVGA Releases Backplate for its GTX 295s

transfers heat, enhances OC stability

Just recently, EVGA has announced the availability of a 1mm thick anodized aluminum backplate for its new GTX 295 and GTX 295 Plus graphics cards.

The product, codenamed 401-EV-1234-01, will be available exclusively for the company's own GTX 295s and ultimately serves as an additional means to transfer heat from the backside of the GPU. In effect, this helps to maximize stability for an extra edge of overclocking performance. Furthermore, the product is compatible with both single card and Quad-SLI configurations and adds a sleek finish to the overall design of the dual-PCB monster card.

It is important to note that the GTX 295 was not designed to need a backplate, but since many people seem to like them, EVGA decided to make one. Therefore, it can be considered nothing more than an extra. With a retail price of just $20, the company is simply doing a very smart and respected business move by appealing to an enthusiast crowd who values aesthetic superiority and an added performance edge from their investments.

For convenience, EVGA has posted a simple three-step installation guide (http://www.evga.com/products/pdf/401-EV-1234-01.pdf) which requires the removal of all screws from the backside of the GTX 295 as well as removal of the retention clip located near the fan.

Due to an unseen demand for the product, however, it has currently been placed on back order within the first day of relese. However, more are expected to be available soon from EVGA's product page here (http://www.evga.com/products/moreInfo.asp?pn=401-EV-1234-01).

For $500, shouldn't it come with that in the first place?

I don’t see other AIB broad partners offer this so why not…I bought one and it’s great to see EVGA do creative things like this to differentiate themselves from other board partners.

All GTX295 have the PCB exposed. So again why not? whether it should have been part of the original design....well I guess Nvidia didn’t think so.

So it’s a chose for 20 bucks. This is no different to someone getting a case window or cathodes in your case.

Hahaha BTW there sold out so I guess lots of peeps wanted on.

Heh, it's not an outrage, but it should come with it, IMO.

Especially since there is no bundled software with the evga, it would be a nice perk.

Agreed I dont think its an outrage would I have perfered it was part of the original design sure.
I do like the fact that EVGA is offering it as an option, and I bought one because I perfer it over the naked PCB.

Again you cant blame EVGA the cost of the tooling and r&d has to be recovered somehow no?

The fact that they offer it is a good idea if you think its to much dough dont buy it pretty simple.

Haters.

LOL $20 more after spending $500 is just disrespect to your customers. Like when Nvidia sold the 280s for $699 and 2 weeks later they were like $450. Disrespect.

They got to make money.

If the idea doesn't catch on:
Another $20 X 10% of the Cards they sell = paying for production of the thing.

If the idea catches on big time with everybody:
An additional $20 X 51% of all 295 sold = more profit then selling just their own 295 cards.

The idea could not have been implemented before the release, ;) and it can't be given away for free. ;) Because they have to make money. ;) Its not like they are Oil Sheiks or something. ;)

But now that I think of it. THUMBS UP TO BFG for the free HDMI cable included with their 295s. MUAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!
:D(urock) BFG !

And Hmmmm... (now that I think of it) I probably woulda' jumped ship if EVGA gave that Backplate for free and a free HDMI cable too. Would have (now that I think of it) maybe never returned to BFG. MUAHAHAHAHA :headbang:(duel) LUV Competition!

Of course that is not true.

Anyways, It is a nice option I think, saying that it should have came with it in the first place is like saying that a new car you bought should have came with a subwoofer in the trunk, it is not required, just a nice add-on.

I would have thought not knowing how many they where going to sell they are probably over priced (if sold with every card). The set up tooling cost would be quite high for such a niche market. Then it looks like replacement screws and a thermal pad and re-enforcement around the screws,There aren't many people going to buy this. $20 certainly doesn't sound excessive to me. By the way my trade is an Engineer/machinist.
Don't want to pay $20 don't buy it end off.
