i applied for a step up to a 295 from my 280 SSC and have been just sent an email saying i have 14 days to send mine off but..
iv just read that the 295 is really only 2 260's sandwiched together in SLI with a few tweaks, and SLI still isnt perfect
how much quicker would the 295 be over mine before I decide to send mine off for step up if it really is a step up ?
also would a standard 285 be much faster too than my OCd SSC 280?
thanks
all these damn numbers :headexplode:
It depends on the game, but my second card gives my FPS a 60-100% boost over a single card. Microstuttering has never been an issue for me with SLI. Don't worry, you'll like it :D.

has anyone else got a 295 to replace their 280?

I did, I play with a vanilla 280 for a few days after I returned my 4780x2 because of driver issues. Although it was a descent performer it just felt like it didn’t have enough power AGAIN I was accustom to using a 4870 for months not that a 280 is a poor performer but...... gaming on a 1920x1080 display there is a substantial performance increase moving from 280 to 295.

wysiwyg,
A GTX 295 is not "just 2 GTX260's sandwitched" It is a hybird. It has 240 shader processors as a 280/285 does but the memory config of a 260 55nm as well as the same core speeds as a 260 55nm.
What is the native resolution of your monitor. This is a key factor for this card as it runs out of memory bandwidth after 1920x1200 using high levels of anti-aliasing or in high texture size games. guru3d has not nice benchmarks of cards
I thought you did your step-up to a GTX285
Thank you,
Monnie
BTW I did a step-up for both my 2800SSC to 285's

Depending on the game, the GTX 295 can be 60% faster to 5% faster than a GTX 280. If you like Crysis or Far Cry 2, the GTX 295 will DEFINITELY be worth it for you. It is slightly slower than a GTX 280 SLI setup but does not consume as much power.

it was the guru score that i found a bit disconcerting
and yeah i like crysis lots but have been playing more newer games like GTA and Mirrors Edge
I was just not sure as mine being the SSC i thought it may have been close to a 295
also it was like said the core speed on the 295 is same as 260s so how can it be quicker than a 280 :s i find it a little confusing
my current monitor is max 1680 1050 but i hope to get a 1920 1200 monitor before end of the year too
It's alot faster because it's got 2 GPU's. I would expect the 295 to be roughly 1.5x faster than your SSC :).

Just find test's where both GTX 295 and the new 285 contains. Your overclocked 280 performs like then 285 so, just check how far its from the 285 up to the 295.
Here's a good example, a great and reliable test with both cards:

It's in swedish i know, but that' doesn't make much sense. Just pick the game u wanna compare and u'll get the results! Cheers...
