I found a website that does a software firewall challenge. It also explains their test methods. Here are the surprising results

http://www.matousec.com/projects/firewall-challenge/results.php

The winner is Open Armor 3.0 (not free), though the free version finished 6th!

Winner of free version is Comodo

They even have vendors' responses! LOL, some of them are hilarious!

The used version of Comodo is an old one, the new version is much better. I think Comodo will win if matousec used the new version.

Same with AVG Internet Security 8.0. The build referenced on that site is at least 5-6 revisions old.

Yeah, I posted this in the "Recommended antivirus and firewall" thread over here:
http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=126230

It is a hardcore test suite that has been run for some years now. It does reveal some really weak firewalls. The top has changed several times, but basically all with very good/excellent are good firewalls.

I think it deserved it's own thread, but my apologies Buio :)

I tried Open Armor, and it was worse than the Microsoft's UAC nagging.

Happily back to PC Tools.

I think I'm gonna try Comodo again, I've tried it before but as I had a payed Outpost I stuck with that for the time. But didn't renew it as I felt Outpost lost a bit in the newer version.
