It not like I have'nt waited for Nvidia to get it right ,I have a TI4600 now witch has been a great card, but now that doom3 and half life 2 are around the corner,I think my money will be best spent on getting a Radeon 9800Pro,the FX5900ultra is looking promiseing, the 9800 still takes it in most games, and I want a new card now,so I guess tomorrow I will be useing a R9800 Pro in my main systen ,and the TI4600 will be put in my kids system, hopely by NV40 nvidia will get it right.

Around the corner? September 30 (tentative shipping date of HL2) is 4 full months away. Doom 3 may not even ship this year...good luck to you, but I think you might be jumping the gun a bit...

Well I play UR2 and now I will be able to use FSAA and Aniso without the big hit on frame rate.

Trust me you won't regret having the radeon 9800 pro. You may have a hard time coming back to Nvidia when you see the IQ of the Radeon 9800 Pro. I have the 9700 Pro, upgraded from a TI4600 and have not regretted it since. Nvidia won't get it right until they have a card that can beat the ATI cards in every aspect and that includes IQ.

Oh man, a night and day difference in UR2 from a GF4 to a 9700 Pro here! 4xAA & 16xAF and smoother than the GF4 with no AA AF!
Wise choice, g'luck!

Definitely an excellent choice! You'll enjoy the R9800 very much.

Yeah, i woudlnt be worried about your card being replaced any time soon, the best thing you can do for your self is after you make a purchase stop worrieing about what 'other' cards are up too untill your ready to buy again.
I wouldnt buy ANYTHING until one or both those games are actually available. Your TI4600 is more than capable of playing any game currently on the market very well. Wait till those new games comes out, because even bigger and better cards will be available, or at the very least the 9800/5900 will be cheap as hell

Absolutely ~ WRONG....
@ Gator : Have much fun on your GF4.4600 Yeah we know you playing on 300 FPS Q on lowest possible settings
A switch from GF4 -> R97oo and or R98oo is a switch like above descriped : From Night to Day in all aspects...

Don't listen to people who preach about it being "good enough". A Geforce 3 Ti200 is "good enough" for any game today as well but who gives a crap about that? If you want top of the line IQ with AA/AF at high res. then you want that 9800 pro, end of story. Let us know when you have the card and what you think!

With u having a Amd rig go for it. :)
Now if it were a new Intel I would say no way.
Newer Intel chipsets and ATI= Nightmares.

I know the feeling, I kept on waiting and waiting, but by the time the 9800 Pro became available to buy I was tired of waiting so I snapped one up, and I haven't regretted it for one second. :)
That's the trouble with computer hardware, you know something better is always just around the corner, if you're not careful you end up waiting forever.

Are you basing your claims on just the Asus boards? I haven't heard of people having issues with canterwood boards at all.

 Um, right... look I'm not denying the R9700 can do a better job than the GF4TI of course it can! It's newer, bigger, better. But my point is for any DX7/DX8 games CURRENTLY available the GF4TI does the job very well. Very well does not mean THE BEST. Stop pressuring this guy to upgrade now now now, when the games he wants arent even out now now now :argh: :retard:

That's what I decided too, I had been patiently waiting for nVidia to come through with the NV35 but they failed to impress yet again, so I went ahead and got a 9800 Pro.
You won't regret it, it's a night and day difference going from a Ti-4600 (which is what I had) to the 9800 Pro.

I too am doing exactly the same. Selling my GF 4 4600 and buying a ATI 9800 Pro.
I have an ABit IC7-G motherboard (875P Chipset) and I am wanting to know what these problems are with newer chipsets and ATI cards are ? If there are major problems with my new combo, then I'm going to have to do a re-think on my GFX card upgrade.
I'd also like to know how much "real" speed improvment there is between the 9700 Pro and the 9800 Pro. Percentage will do.
I'm mainly doing this upgrade for Doom III. I know there might be bigger and better cards out then but like a lot of people have said before in here, "we can't wait for ever".
Now I am new to the Cat Drivers, so are there any major problems in games with them or are they ok ?
Thanks for your advice guys.

Funny, but BK will turn nearly every thread he participates in into this discusion
To his credit, it appears that a very small percentage of people w/ the granite bay chipset are having some problems when AGP8x is enabled. I'm sure BK can elaborate, as he was one of the unfortunate users.
What I'm, tiring of is his consttant bringing it up in seemingly every single thread. I don't see other users that have had issues continue to harp about a problem they've had (no matter the comany)..... in every discussion they participate in....This would be a pretty sad place if every person who has a beef w/ a past peice of hardware continued to bit*h and moan in every thread they participated....
I wouldn't be to conerned about it, as it doesn't affect the vast majority, and all you need to do is run in AGP4x, and perhaps disable fast-writes as well....

To my knowledge, there are no known problems with the canterwood board. Go for the upgrade, you won't regret it!

Intel chipsets usually never have probelms, if it was a SiS or ALi it would be a diffrent stroy.
With my system and the Cat 3.2's I did have to disable FastWrites. With the Cat 3.4's, FastWrites are enabled and everything is very stable. All this is at AGP 8x.....
