Got my GTX 285 the other day and get 96C under Max stress test in Furmark and wondering am I gonna fry my card as it seems way to much ?

I know it stresses it the most out there and when I game it's at 86C the most what I have seen and that wont be a problem I hope :)

I think that's barely on the limit. Try to put a fan on the front of the card blowing towards the back of the card. That will bring down the temps substiantially...

According to comments furmark is to extreme and no game will ever torture your card like that... so nothing to worry about , just don't play furmark all day :D

“In our lab tests we have discovered that when running Furmark to test for temperature, it tends to show results that would never be achieved in any circumstances (under normal running or overclocking). Running Furmark is highly risky therefore we do not recommend running this program for tests. This program pushes the VGA card to the point of maxing out, beyond limit and will burn out any cooler, stock or after market coolers after long period of testing. Even running games such as Far Cry 2 and GTA 4 extensively for long hours, the temperatures would never reach what Furmark’s excruciating tests put out.
Furthermore, it is crucial to have a 12cm fan installed running at 1600 RPM. This will ensure enough airflow to not only the HR-03 GTX heatsink body but also to the VRM heatsink plate. If you would like to run software to test for heatsink’s
temperature stability, we strongly recommend ATI Tools.

Okey thanks guys and I will put a fan infront of my gfx card asap as I have a place right there in my Antec P182 case :)

Yeah Furmark is what Intelburntest seems to be for GPU and 86 was peak under full load in Warhead but safer to put a fan infront of my card.

BTW did forget to say that I have it O/C at Core 712 Shader 1620 Memory 1380 Mhz and it seems all good without any artifacting :D

What is your fan speed set at? That seems really hot unless the fan is at only 40%.

MaxFX

The fan went up to 100% under full load so it seems very hot as you say and the card idels at around 45 - 50C

Use EVGA precision and try the fan speed @ 60% then 70%. That's a very high temp. I don't usually break 70C with my overclocked GTX 260s after hours of AoC @ 1920x.

MaxFX

The fan is running at 100% right know as I just started another maximum strestest in Furmark and it's at 90C direct oouch thats hot :D
Annyway whats the treashold for these 55nm cards ?
I know I read before that 105C was the threashold for the 65nm cards!

WFT, its up at 98C now..better stop the prog I think :S

I ran Furmark three times back to back @ 1280x then 1920x. With 70% fan speed I hit 58C @ 1280x. @ 1920x I hit 65C. Silverstone TJ10 FTW :)

I run my cards @ 711|2300 with a 1500 shader clock.

Okey that sounds very low and nice :)
Starting to wondering if theres something wrong with my card.

Will test it now at default clock in Furmark. forgot to say that all test in Furmark is with the extreme burn test at 1920*1200 16AA!

How long are you running the stress test? I'll be happy to try it @ 1920x with 16xAA.

Linky (http://www.geeks3d.com/?p=2995) I agree.

Just don't use Furmark.

It kills.

I get these temps just after a few minutes, very extreme hehe
Now I see it's at 94c with everything default on my GTX 285 so it cant be good at all!

10mins put me @ 74C @ 1920x1200 with 16x CSAA. That's 70% fan speed 711|2300 1500. I'll run it for a half hour and report back.

Aah okey that dont seem to extreme and the fan at only 70%, mine went up to 100% directly!

Yepp looking forward to hear what you get :)

Ok exactly one half hour of Furmark's stability test had me just hit 76C. Again, that was done @ 1920x1200 16x CSAA 70% fan speed in a closed TJ10 case. System fans are @ low. Card was clocked @ 711|2300 1500.

I'll try it again later with 80% fan speed. If this were a game we were talking about I'd definitely kick up the fan speed. I don't like to be higher than 70C.

EDIT: 20mins as above with 80% fan speed = 70C exactly.

Allright then it sounds like I may have some serious problems or its is just the damn P182 case hehe.

Will get a fan infront of it and see if it helps or else I will get a better case, I really hate it annyway. so little space there is to do annything in it. and to work with the modular cables in this case is a nigthmare!

Great temps you have there and thanks a lot that you took the time checking this out Backlash very appritiated :)

NP. Good luck getting it worked out. IMO that card shouldn't be loading that high. I just played an hour of AoC @ 1920x and only hit 57C.

You may want to try it with the side of your case off just to see what the difference would be. If there is more than a 5C drop it very well could be poor air flow, if not, card's probably got an issue.

It would also be helpful if we could get some 285 users results here too. DH reported some overclocked 285 results below-

Everyone should make sure to use same version of Furmark when comparing results, latest is 1.6.0 with Stability Test + Xtreme Burning Mode selected, old furmark doesn't stress so much.
And you can't compare game temps to furmark its different beast ;)

Good catch. I was using the older version.

I tried it again with the latest version (1.6.0); 16xAA 1920x1200, stability test + Xtreme burning mode. With the card @ 711|2300 1500 80% fan speed I saw a 73C max during 30mins. During the final 6mins the card temp actually fell to 72C. That's closed TJ10 case with system fans on low.

True it seems way high as in gaming I hit 86C with the card at default that's crazy.

Good Idea will check with the sides off. heres hoping it's not the card. I allready start checking for a new case as I said I hate the P182 annyway. must have a bigger and better one :)

Thanks again!!

Very good idea DVS so lets see :)

I have the same you mentioned 1.6.0 and done all my test with Stability Test + Xtreme Burning Mode on 16AA!
