Not anything that anyone here would use as it's a P233 128MB 3.2GB 16MB Vanta (Eeeew! PCI too! ) with a DVD drive. It's an old Packard Hell from 97-8 that has been haphazardly upgraded as the years pass.
But hey, with a spiffy 17" monitor & an old HP 670c it'll be a huge step up for a friend of mine from the POS I've sort of strung together for him over the years....MUCH better!
Kind of funny though about how I ended up with it...
It broke. On boot-up it would just go blank in windows. I offered to fix and I did take a look at it for about 15 minutes, but with both my kids going nuts at Grandma's house with her 3 dogs and her recovering husband it was kind of hard to actually DO anything on it. I offered to take it home and fix it, but me brother was in town and staying at the house for a few weeks and said not to bother he'd take care of it...but did I happen to have a boot disk and some 98se disk lying around he could borrow? (Of course it's no problem, I carry that around in both me vehicles as part of me "emergency supply kit"...I'm NOT joking!)
A couple weeks pass, me brother leaves. He never could get the 'puter fixed. My Mom decides if he can't fix it it's time for a new computer. (He's always been the ubergeek of the family, I still think he is.) So she of course buys a Dell and gets herself nicely ripped off, but it's a nice set-up for what she does with it and she does sort of make a small fortune for a living running a small bank so I figure it's all good.
'Cept one problem, she needs her bookmarks. :rolleyes:
So she offers me the whole PC, but wants me to get her bookmarks and such of the old HD. No biggy again, I figure I can find a way to do that unless the HD is totally fuxored.
I get home, kids eat and down for nap, hook the PC up to the test monitor/mouse/keyboard I still have sitting on me kitchen counter that is REALLY starting to piss me wife off and try and fire it up and it does....but in 1600x1200 or something else insanely beyond me old 14" monitors ability to display correctly and I got the funkadelic 6 overlayed screens which I somehow actually managed to open up the settings properties and get back to 640x480. (I was damned lucky, plus I have a lot of practice at it)
Problem solved, all better. :lol:
I'm now just copying over her hard-drive in it's entirety onto Bubbles for luck and am then gonna wipe her, tear her apart, put the bits I want in, and load up a nicely tweaked version of 98se onto. My friend has been using an old P150 with a 14" monitor that is fuzzy for years now and I'm really looking forward to surprising him with this set-up. I'm hoping I can get it ready by tonight, but if not I'm just glad it's going to happen.
So it ends up my Mother fixed her resolution problem by buying a new computer. :lol: Her new dell has got an absolutely GORGEOUS flat-panel on it, I'm seriously thinking of waiting until their warranty is up and setting at some resolution insanely beyond it's capabilities to handle..... ;)
