Brick and mortar :-) I saw it when I was in there this morning buying fans. Not sure if it's available online. I bought one last week @ 299 and they refunded the diff for me today

The sales guy also went to the "cage" and found a specific batch for me :-)

Ya, I would take this offer but the damn motherboards are so expensive. $300 is way too much.

QFT.

I almost went i7. When you expressed interest in my Q6600, mobo, and HSF and started pricing out PhenomII and i7 builds. If I were to have sold the Q6600 to you, I probably would have gone PhII simply cause of the price/performance. The Corei7 procs, and even the DDR3 RAM, are affordable IMO- but the motherboards... I just cannot fathom more than $200 for a motherboard... and that's extreme for me. My price remains around $150. I just cant rationalize going beyond that. SLi isn't worth it IMO, and you can have boards for that price or less that will do CrossFire just fine.

Anyhow... very good deal on a very awesome chip. :)

I agree with you there!! I had a hard time spending my hard earned cash on my current upgrade. My hope is it will last me a good long while. Then again, I'm a sucker for new toys :D

Damn there isn't a Fry's within 200 miles of me. I may have to find someone to pick one up for me.

Factor in the cost of DDR3 RAM and your looking at the total being *at least* $600.

Yep. It wasn't that long ago that a 775 socket CPU + mobo + DDR2 would have been way more than that.

:wtf:

You talk like prices drop just around the Core i7's release

For the past 6 months atleast, I could have configured a complete Core2 setup for roughly $800, monitor not included.

Where have you been shopping? They've been making a killing off of you. :p

I was thinking about how expensive RAM was not long ago (12-18months)... 4GB of RAM was almost as much as a x58 mobo is now.
