How in the heck does HW enthusiast heirarchy work???
I try and try to figure this out by analyzing BUTTLOADS of forums (though my only HOME is here), but I can't put my finger on it!!
"wtf is he talkin bout?"
... i know, right?
ok, I'll attempt to make sense:
- I've grown up being a hw enthusiast.
[1992: first in my town with win3.1... had to up my 286 to 1mb RAM, and traded my ATI vidcard (640x480 max) for an Oak (so I could do 800x600)....]
- I left the "windows UI tweak enthusiast" community in 2k, and switched to gamer mode... spend much time learning @ anandtech & Tom's... got up to speed on HW (but not vidcards... I quit my addiction to them from 95-2k)...
- Since early 2k1, I've been reading/learning/posting every dang day... I feel that my knowledge base has grown quite a bit since I saw my first pics of antialiasing on the gf3 in the summer 2k1 PC Gamer mag (which also included stuff on sims-online, and screenshots of unreal2)...
and I'm confident that my online persona is polite and wordy, albeit slightly off the wall... I've never been banned, and can count on one hand the number of posts o mine that have been deleted...
So now I'm knee deep :D... and I spend many hrs a day here or at other forums learning (besides my 7-4 job, time wih gf/time with daughter/time building other ppl's pc's) ... and I'm lookin for what's next....
What can be next?
Half of me wants to call all gfx card companies begging for samples...
---I CAN REVIEW PRODUCT---
...but how do I get to the point where it's a realistic consideration?
What, should I review all my own hardware, format and edit the content, throw the graphs where they need to be, and send the stuff out like it's a resume?
there's only a COUPLE of places I'd even consider contributing my time to... what, is it more realistic @ 2000 posts?
I don't have friends in good places, or a pm relationship with many mods...
Am I screwed because of this?
Do I have to graduate to "mod" somewhere else, and then "news poster" before I can think of any of this?
Heck, I'd review mouse pads if it'd get my foot in the door.
I just wanna help MORE somewhere, but have no idea yet of the proper steps to take from here...
Mods: any help?
MikeC: Any words of wisdom?
Dig: menthol cigarette, pleeze?
/help/me/
