In Vista I cannot run Very High @ 1680x1050 with "comfortable framerates". Just for ****s today I fired it up in Windows 7 beta x86 and it ran great (very high, 1680, no AA). I'm very happy but not suprised. Windows 7 has been monumentally superior to it's predecessor for me in all applications and games I've tried on it.
Anyone looking to replay it should give it a shot on the W7 beta.
I'm installing win7 tomorrow so I'll be sure to give it a try :)

I noticed no major difference in performance. Now if I was back on 2 GB of ram maybe. When I had 2 GB I had to play it in XP since Vista's memory footprint was so big. Since W7's memory footprint is smaller maybe it would run better then. But now that I have 6 GB it's not an issue.

Using 4GB ram here and the specs in my sig. In fact I'm only running the W7 x86 and it still runs alot better than Vista x64 on my other HD. The memory clearly doesn't matter cause with my GPU the OS is only able to use 3GB of ram anyways in W7 x86.

I very much doubt it, unless there's something wrong with your Vista installation...

I have SLI and it just doesn't seem to work as good in Win7 than in Vista. Probably the drivers.
And it's not so much 4 gigs over 3 gigs that helps so much. On my system Vista uses about 1 GB of ram on its own and Crysis likes to use a little bit over 1 GB which is just over 2 gigs. So there was a lot of stuttering until I got more ram.

Both are brand new installs (reinstalled both the same day, last week) and using the same versions of all the drivers. So thats pretty much ruled out.

I dont know anything about the status of W7 and SLI. With a single card though its faster. Someone else earlier in the thread confirmed this too.

I don't know I benchmarked them both in single GPU mode and there wasn't really any big difference. The latest drivers crash in SLI in Windows7 for me so I can't even check SLI performance now.
Here is a very recent XP/Vista/W7 comparison with real numbers:
http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/windows_7_gaming_performance/
The Crysis DX9 numbers show that W7 is slightly better than Vista. Although one would think it would become better with mature drivers not worse. But in DX10 Crysis runs worse on W7.
Well, at least ME runs bad in W7 for me.
EDIT: also from those benches, W7 is consistently slower that either XP or Vista...

I call shenanigans on some of those numbers. No way they get those kinds of framerates in Crysis at those resolutions and settings with a single 8800 GTS.
I didn't see much difference at all, if anything W7 was a bit slower. I imagine some driver optimization may help quite a bit though.

Yeah, when you said that I checked numbers on 8800gts and Crysis and it's as you say. Most probably they ran at a much lower graphics setting and the graph header wasn't fixed to show that. Is it even possible to set very high in DX9?

With older drivers it was slower than Vista for me (no SLI support). But the 181.77 driver has the game running better than Vista now :D

you're right I don't believe it. because it's patently not true, esp. with TriSLI. check again, even for a i7 920 compared to an oc e8600 there should be no comparison.
In fact, against an e8600, the 965 posts 57% higher framerate at up to 1920*1200 http://www.guru3d.com/article/core-i7-multigpu-sli-crossfire-game-performance-review/15
