AM3 motherboards are out now and the CPUs will be following soon-

Ram would be 60 bucks a stick if you want DDR 3 1600 2x2Gb.

If you went with 1333 ram instead you could knock it down to 45usd a sitck.

I believe some AM3 CPUs will be out this week. For those interested, I'd probably look at the 945 or 925.

WOW!

MOST excellent!

Though, I do not plan on being an early adopter... I just got this Q6600 rig up and running, I'd like to enjoy it a bit. :D :p

I plan to sit back and read reviews from professional sites and actual users. My main interest would be for an SLi capable AM3 board. I've heard that they should be available, just not sure when.

Due to various reasons, I'm not going ATi this round. I already have a solid nVidia card- my goal would be to migrate to a platform that'd allow me to add at least a second card. I'm hoping to time my AM3 system build around my birthday... that'd be the end of March. This should allow time for the boards, processors, RAM, and aftermarket HSFs to flood the market. This should also allow time for modified motherboards, or at least I'd hope.

Anyhow, thank you for pointing this out. I will most definitely be keeping my eye on these... :D ;)

Today's reviews only mentioned lower spec AM3 CPUs, the 2.6GHz 910 seems to be the fastest DDR3 Phenom but apparently it's OEM only. The 810 is for the retail.
Nothing about a 945 or 925...

It's possible they are holding those two until April.

EDIT: Yep the 945 won't hit until then.

Too bad.

Indeed. Today's launch is pretty... :zzzz:

:wtf: is AMD thinking? This is a crap launch.

Well, from my POV anyways. I can see how this could be a profitable strategy, as the 925 and 945 will probably replace the 920 and 940 entirely. I suppose this can better lock in their position in the low end and mainstream segments, if they approach this right. Then again, that also depends on how well these new processors perform compared to "last year's model", so to speak.

Regardless, if the 925 and 945 are due out around April-ish... that give me more time to save. I'd *love* to work this so I can keep my Q6600 rig, and just have a second rig with the PhII. :drooling: :wonder:

Just to point this out, all the Phenom II's being released for AM3 (will also work in AM2+ boards) have the 95 watt TDP. This means that everyone who bought a board that wont take the higher TDP chips (me, and I'm pretty sure there were a few others) will be back in luck and be able to step up to faster chips.

Good point.

Some might be interested in the X3 720. I believe they are going to be around 140usd or less. They seem to OC fine too, Hothardware got 3.6 out of theirs and Hard got 3.58. At least one reviewer I know of got 4.0GHz-
