Capcom has confirmed a sequel to zombie shooter Dead Rising is in development.

Dead Rising 2 is set several years after the first game. Turns out no one managed to contain that pesky old zombie virus, and it's spread throughout the US.

The press release promises Dead Rising 2 will take the series to "a whole new level", originally, with "tens of thousands" of zombies to batter. There's an all-new "gambling paradise" called Fortune City to explore, plus new objects to use as deadly weapons.

The game is being developed in partnership with Canadian studio Blue Castle Games, who previously produced baseball title The Biggs. Some members of the original Dead Rising Team will help out, including Keiji Inafune - said to be playing " an active role" the development process.

Dead Rising 2 is in development for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360, with a release date yet to be announced.

Capcom is giving us PC users all their love. Iīm thinking of starting to buy all their games, even those i donīt like just to support them :)

I have great faith in Capcom, their engine is brilliant and it makes an efficient use of PC hardware: multiple cores, dual cards. Good news

it would be nice if for bonus they would include the first game as well.

You really wouldn't want to play it, I would bet. It had sooooo many annoying aspects to it. Since this is a different team, and a new age, I expect better things...

Don't get me wrong, the core gameplay was awesome.

Much better lightning than the original, main character looks much better graphically. Although the aliased shadows on the floor in the first pic looks bad but might be fixed to soften them up as its early pics.

Really looking forward to the game. This time I will buy it on PC to get best graphics.

Great news! :)

I played the first one a couple months ago on my friend's 360. It seemed like it could be a cool game but the graphics were pretty weak and it had some incredibly irritating parts, mostly related to "boss" battles that felt completely out of place. As usual, aiming a pistol with an analog stick made it a whole lot worse for me too.

For a release title it looked pretty good. Plus it coped well with a lot of onscreen baddies.

However it never really got into it. I'll definitely checkout this new one on PC though. Mirrors Edge was meh for me on 360, but brilliant on PC. Same for Lost Planet (I assume DR2 will use the same engine).

I had Dead Rising on my xbox 360, but I sold that console before I got to get into the game's meatier parts :D

Capcom is freaking awesome.

Now, if they only confirm that RE5 will be released also to the PC..

This is great news. I always wanted to play the original, but seeing as i don't own any consoles...

Never played DR. So is it all about smashing zombies, thats all?

It's like playing Dawn of the Dead.

But the Dead Rising campaign had a fairly deep story, which had you run around rescuing survivors doing missions and killing "bosses" (special weird insane humans). All while finding makeshift weapons and slaughtering a huge amount of zombies, some cultists and a few other insane humans.

Most people complained about the save system and the difficulty. You basically have to level up your character by starting and playing some time(which is saved) and then restart the campaign with a higher lvl character. Although the savesystem was stupid, I love that the game was more difficult. Most games today are just way too easy.
