It was on the news 5 seconds ago. No links unfortunately.
News comes on before Star Trek Deep Space 9.

What the vaccine does it boosts your cells to be able to kill the "AIDS virus" (I thought HIV was a virus and AIDS is just a biproduct of the virus?).

Anyway, what do you guys think?

HIV + == chances of getting fullblown aids... AIDS

HIV is the virus just by its name.. (HIV = hugely indestructible Vulcan)

um... whoops... I meant human immuno-deficiency virus... was in the startrek flow for a bit...

I think any tools that helps in the fight against AIDS/HIV is a good thing.

My only problem is I hate the pricetag associated with saving a human life.

While I agree for the most part making money is a necessary evil in this case. Money purs more research. Even if you use government resources you still need money to fund it. Sad story all the way around.

Yeah, as long as it somebodies hard earned income taken as taxes. I believe that nature has a way of maintaining balance. This is one of them. Intelligent people do not engage in unsafe practices, therefore a sort of natural selection is taking place.

Oh, and BTW, good luck with that vaccine 1st.

Bold move calling every single homosexual out there stupid, that's not a assertion I (or anyone intelligent) would ever make.

<sarcasm>Glad to see more of that conservative heart.</sarcasm>

I didn't read anything about homosexuals in his post.
Did you make that jump of logic or did I miss something?

Dude, you can get aids from your dentist if he doesn't clean his instruments properly.

Anybody, homosexual or not, that engages in unsafe sex practices is indeed stupid. Yes there was the dentist that infected several patients due to his failure to adequately sterilize his equipment. AFAIK, that was an isolated incident and not a common occurance at all.

I guess we'll leave out, blood transfusions(before they could test for HIV), surgeries, accidents involving persons with AIDS, wherein blood gets transfered, or even spouses who find out their mates have been cheating on them the hard way.

I guess all those people are stupid too, eh?

There are many ways to contract HIV, not all of them involve sex.

Face it Ib you just allowed everyone here to realize how heartless you truely are, either that or ignorant.

Yeah, I can trust people like you to give to charities. Will your gifts come before or after you insult them for being "stupid" in your eyes?

if someone contracts aids or HIV through their careless lifestyle I could care less how they turn out.

For those people who are real victims, such as those that contract it through blood transfusions or other accidents where it is not their fault, then my heart goes out to them.

Those are the people we should be working to help and cure, the others dug their own grave, so they can sleep in it.

Guess what eNv, cures don't discriminate.

Cure one, cure them all.

I should mention that intelligent people do stupid things on occasion. Too bad that's all it takes.

I don't give a damn about your "intelligent homos" or whatever. If through their reckless lifestyle they contracted it then it is their fault and it is their problem. No money should be wasted helping them.

Sure cures don't discriminate, but if they want to have the cure once it is found, they should have to fork over the $$$:D

Ummmm, so will everyone else. Your point?

Oh I should mention, some of those stupid people living risky lifestyles, are immune to HIV (http://www.aegis.com/news/newsday/1998/ND980701.html).

Funny, the very people you're insulting, are the very people we need the most to help cure everyone else.

How's that for irony.

ah so you agree? My point is that priority should be taken over the people who contracted it through their own fault(i.e, like I've said before, careless lifestyle) to better serve those who really deserve a cure(i.e, those who got it through an accident, or birth, or whatever that was not because of their own doing or fault). That goes beyond homosexuals as well;)

Could you please inform me as to what percentage of hiv is contracted in this way? I am sure in the grand scheme of things it must be quite high, say around 0.3%.

At least I give to charity rather than extolling a socialist ideology, unlike yourself.

Psst, you're not the only one who gives to charities. Nice try though.

And I don't need percentages, it's enough that people have contracted it that way.

If you're hard pressed on numbers,

a) you're not very charitable
b) I'm sure any of the AIDS groups can help you

Never once did I say that I contribute to AIDS research privately. There is no need to when the federal budget is $20,000,000,000 for the next year. I am already contributing a percentage, by virtue of taxes, that I would wager is far greater than yours.

1/3rd of new HIV cases in africa are due to mothers passing the virus on to their children.

*shrugs* first you try to berate me on not contributing, now failing that you're going after how much.

To be honest I have no idea how much I contribute by percentages, I don't calculate it that way. It's not worth a pissing contest; I give as it's needed and as I have.

It isn't wise to talk about your charities.

I never thought I'd do it but I'd like to quote one Mr. Chris Rock on this issue. They ain't never curing AIDS. There's too much money in the cure! That's where they make their money, on the comeback! That's all the government is, a bunch of ****in' drug dealers. My $0.02.
