Okay, perhaps a dramatic title :o but indeed you can influence my life. :D

At 10:00am tomorrow morning I am either buying a

BFG GeForce GTX 285 OC 1Gb card for : £285

OR

Zotac GeForce GTX 295 1792mb DDR3 for : 370

OR

Gainward GeForce GTX 280 1024MB GDDR3 (2nd hand only 2yr warranty) for :£230

Here is your chance to influence the life of someone :afro:(not that you give a **** lol)

edit: this is my last thread on the matter :o

What are the curcimstances? If moneys not an issue the GTX295 is by far the best card, I got my 295 a couple weeks ago and havent had a single issue with it at all. Its running everything fast as hell, I run L4d with 16af Q16aa supersampling all max settings no problem. When I bought mine I was kinda worried about sli issues but there nonexistant in all the games I play. One small issue you may have is they put out alot of heat so you should have good case airflow, and the card is huge so check the dimensions in your case. BTW evga is the best card maker by far because of warranty, step up program, and there software support.

Duh! If you can afford a 295, why wouldn't you buy one?

Looks like its the GTX 295. Normally its £460 but I have seen a nice deal somewhere so I can get one for £370.

I would love to get the EVGA one, but unfortunatly its clocking in at £433 for the stock version, which is to much to pay, even though they are nice company.

BFG on the other hand have their card for £398 vs Zotac's (never heard of them :o) £370. Im still debating if its worth steping up to BFG because at least ive heard of them, though it will mean losing 3DMark Vantage and FarCry 2.

Meh, might flip a coin

You can go BFG but I've used BFG cards also before. Now I use EVGA products and to be honest, I wouldn't go back to BFG speaking from my experience with them. My 1st BFG card was a 6800GT which went dead after a couple of months of use so they sent me a replacement. I had to use my s.h.i.t.ty old FX5200 for like 2 weeks while in transit. My 2nd BFG card was a 7600 GS and I took it out of my case for a holiday visit to my parent's house so I can play some games while over. After the return and plugging it back in, I started seeing artifacts on the screen when the computer goes idle for a certain period of time. It was annoying, I tell you. I don't know about others using BFG, but so far their cards seem quite troubling, hence cheaper.

Now I use EVGA and it's hassle-free w/ some of the best customer supports you will see in the market today and their products so far are no problemo. So if I were you, I'd go with EVGA even at the cost of extra 40 or 50 bucks: they're well worth the money since in the end it skips a lot of time and trouble you potentially might come across w/ other brands.

GTX285! :) Then again... I believe fully in single card solutions only and have lost faith in SLi after playing with it on several ocassions... :p

there's no more MS my 4870x2 doesn't have it neither do the 285s... My 9800gx2 had it. after 9800gx2 nvidia got on the ball with fixing the MS issue.

I enjoy having more VRAM :) The GTX285 also has higher GPU and memory clocks. It's honestly a toss up. All depends what you are looking for / willing to spend / what games you play / what settings & resolutions you plan to use. :p The GTX285 as a single card is by far the most powerfull single card solution on the market, the GTX295 will score higher in FPS (except in a few) and benchmarks but keep in mind its really 2 cards doing the job to get it there. From what I have seen anyway depending on the game the difference can be minimal or decent but both cards blow anything out of the water thats out now and neither card slips into the "unplayable" category of any game out right now :)

nuttin' but awesome improvements for me- w00t!- going from 280 to 295. but it was only a trade up and not a new purchase. I guess anyone that gets a 285 has 90 days with several companys and 100 days with BFG to trade up to a 295. BFG was going to let me trade up no problem for a 285. My request was timed just right so that all they had was an OCed 285 to go with. But I got the 295 instead. :D

What if a super duper 295 came out in 90 days? (more vRAM somehow- OCed or sumpin'....)

I guess anyone that just got anything could trade up for it. t00t sweet! :D Well, wouldn't be 4 me because i already traded up to a 295. oh well- gl to everyone else.
