Hi,

Today i bought an Ipod today on impulse!~

Its the New revision 15gig.

When i first got the packagin, it was a cube, and they tried to make it look 'arty'. When you take off the box shell, it has a cube that unfolds like a book.

The packaging was very nice they managed to fit everything in there very well!

Whats included is the Ipod, Base Stand, 1 Firewire to Ipod wire, 4 to 6 pin firewire converter, Earbuds, Remote control (15 and 30gig models only), Charger.

One thing i noticed, Apple is obssed with firewire, when we all know USB2.0 is far superior.

The funny thing i noticed is, the Adaptor, that you plug into your wall, dose not have a cable on it. You take your Firewire cable included and plug it in!

The included software is GOD AWFUL. MusicMatch Jukebox, that is the worst software ever. Its actually not bad if you have Real CD's and you rip them, but if you have mp3's on your computer it messes up all the menus on the Ipod, such as duble nameing files so they appear under many menus.

It also has a alternate use, if you have a PC with a Firewire port or a USB1.1 or USB2.0(if you buy the adaptor) you can use it as a very small portable hard drive(windows XP only, i am sure you can get it to work with other OS's if they had drivers)

But now to my delima, The Ipod cost 399$, it was an impulse buy, should i take it back or keep it! I dont really find i have that great of a need to listen to mp3's but i allways have problems with moveing files to other computers!

Now you guys get to vote weather i return it(it is an APPLE product after all yeck) or keep it!

Well if you don't have a need to listen to mp3s, then by all means, return it. No sense in spending $400 for something that you won't use much.

It carries porn right?

Send it to me if you don't want it. (I like firewire better than USB2.0, and I prefer MMJB to most other PC mp3 managers). :D

get the zen 2. Same styling as the iPod, but it is built for PC users. Plus after 2 years you do not have to take the iPod apart to replace the battery.

Hell yeah it carries porn. 15gigs worth!

On a serious note, anyone work or have worked at CompUSA or had experince returning there?

They claim they can charge a 15% restocking fee, but my friend has returned 60$ worth of fans there one time, then he bought more, and returned em, heh they did not charge him or question it at all.

Any suggestions! hehe

BTW, i noticed sometimes when i would plug the ipod in, my computer would spontaneiously reboot. Could it really be a virus writen by those 1 mouse button bastards?

Blue Screen errors cause XP to reboot if you have it set to do it.

Right Click My Computer ->Properties ->Advanced -> Settings under Startup and Recovery -> Under System Failure uncheck Automatic Restart

That will at least tell you what caused the error.

I'd say keep it personally. I had an iPod until it was stolen and I miss it very much. Awesome MP3 player.

i never had a blue screen (on my intel) EVER, EVEr i mean EVER untill i installed the ipod, come to think of it, after i installed the software windows rebooted into safemode!

After useing it more, the more i want to keep it ahhhh.

I am seriously considering it, the sales man is trying to talk me into their warrenty. he told me

For 60$, if you get bored of it, or a new ipod comes out, bring it back and we will give you the new model that costs 399$, if u get bored with it, bring it back get a new one put it on ebay.

do you guys think it is worth it? Ive herd the batteries develop a memory on the old ones etc, he said if it dose that, just bring it back hm.... it is tempting.

Hm it dose sound tempting, 400 for 15gig compared to 275 for 20, i think, i think ill do it! Provided CompUSA will take it back with out a restocking fee (they better)

and i think ill buy the Zen from Circuit City, they are Hauses.

EDIT------------------

Ha, actually the only reason why i started looking at Ipods was because of the recent PVPOnline strips heh!

The touch pad interface of the new Ipod really sets it self apart, i am now so close to keeping it! Other than the money aspect, i cant see a flaw in it, accept for this.

'Ipods dont skip is bull****' well if the song is not entirely in cach sometimes it will pause for a split second while it reads from the hard drive, it has only happend twice to me, was kinda werid.

Truthfully, i may return it to compusa, try out a zen, if i like it keep it, if i dont buy an ipod again heh. yeah im an store abuser. : (

It's a good thing I looked at the entire thread, I was going to post that comic!

I'd rather not render the $100's that I've spent on CDs useless, thanks. :D

You missed an option in the poll:

"Who the **** listens to music anyway when they're not in their house? If you're walking around, you probably shouldn't use headphones because you're a dip**** who will not only blow an insane amount of money on frivolous crap, but you'll probably get hit by a bus in the process. And if you can't switch a CD in the car while driving, apparently your brain was probably switched with that of a gerbil. And then you'll get hit by a bus again."

Oh yeah, did I mention I have this thing against MP3s?

Most cars have CD players, and CD burners are FREE (well, after rebates. screw you.). MP3s are fine for listening to when you're not really paying attention, but $400 for something you don't want to pay attention to? CHRIST! BUY A TIVO!

(by the way. TiVo is the ****ing coolest thing I have ever seen. I remember when I first used 5.1 sound. I remember when I got a cable modem. I remember when I first saw a DVD. I remember when I switched from cable TV to satellite. TiVo beats them all. I **** you not. Now, to find my hacksaw and put an Ether port in it... :D )

My car has a 12disk cd changer in the truck and holds 1 cd in the dash!

I actually use it at school when im trying to find a bus to walk in front of!

I dont have sattalite in my room, our house's cable wireing is to big and we had to run a direct line from the dish to the downstairs TV, it gets degraded to much if we try to hook it up to the house. But if i did, id definatly get an AIW prodcut and set up a second pc for bitchwork like that

MP3 players and a set of noise cancelling headphones are pretty swell when riding on the plane though.

Status Update!!!!!!!

Ipod: Returned

CompUSA tried to charge me a 15% 'restocking fee', witch i know was total bs. They just send it back to apple and they get a new one, plus my 15%.

They still refused to waver the 15% fee, but they said, "well you can exchange it for a new one" so i said, ok ill do that, be back tomorow, then they just said, ok we will waiver that fee.

Good call, don't put up with their crap. They expect people to just bend over and take a cool $60 in the arse? That's priceless.

Yeah, my friend works at Sams Club and he handles all the returns. For a Store to send something back to the mfg it is no questions asked. They just try to pull some BS over on people. The facotry eahter ships them new ones or credits them.

I have the original 5GB iPod. Use it to link to my Windows machine with a program called X-Play, it integrades syncing with the finder. X-Play works with XP, 2000, and ME (might work for 98SE- depends on Firewire support for OS). I use Winamp to make playlists, drop them in the iPod Music folder in Windows Explorer, and the playlist and MP3s are added to the iPod. Battery life is much better with the new firmware. It's great for running, rather durable.

I would never buy the Windows iPod (MusicMatch is the worst MP3 software package around) buy the Mac iPod + X-Play makes it worthwhile.
