Okay for security reasons ive thrown away my old hard drives.

Now, (you guessed it) :headexplode: im on the prowl for new hard drives.

I can get

1TB Hitachi Deskstar 7K1000.B for 68

640GB Western Digital WD6401AALS Caviar Black 65

Now logic tells me just to go for the damn 1000gb, but im looking for a combination of performance and silence. (performance more important).

Which one would you recommend? My pet hate of pcs is having to wait for windows and files to load.

I will be buying 2 of them of whatever.

An alternative is to buy these:

1TB Samsung HD103UJ Spinpoint F1 costs 80

these cost 12 extra but apparently are quite good. Im stretching my budget but if they are worth it.....

cheers (sorry about the amount of threads :o)

Do you need that amount of space? I'd recommend going with a 300GB WD Velociraptor for Windows and important files, and you can use a 1TB of your choice for the other files. Might add a bit to your budget as theyre about $199 US.

I'm partial to the WD drives, but the Hitachi and Samsung's arent bad.

the 300gb hard drives are nice, but unfortunatly they cost literally 5x the price of a 1000gb hitachi :o and I cannot justify this. :(

I have brought 2x 1000gb hitachi 7200.b hard drives (the two of them cost me less than half the price of a 300gb raptor). Hopefully they will do me good.

Many thanks all.
