Just read this over at ve3d.ign.com
Looks like ETM is the best selling Atari game ever.
Anyway, I just hope that the developers use this not as an excuse to do poorly on the next Matrix game, but instead as an incentive to spend more money on Q&A and playtesting.

Well, there will definately be a sequel pretty soon, probably for release with the next Matrix movie, probably with the same engine/gameplay with a few tweaks.

I dobut spending more money would do any good; the budget for Enter the Matrix was supposedly 30 million, higher than any game I've heard of.
Okay...
The graphics suck and so does the gameplay.
How will this change in the 2nd game?

Hitman 3 is 43 million$ :)
I wonder how many ETM were returned...

So it did overtake Shenmue as the most expensive video game ever developed? Though I'm not terribly surprised.

Well, if you played the game, you might understand. The game had a fair amount of live action footage with actors from the movie. Some of the footage was the same as the movie, but most was not. It has to be pretty expensive to pay these people. There are also literally hundreds of martial arts moves that can be pulled off.
But, in the end, shortcuts were definitely taken when it came to QA, and there could have been more playtester input into the level design in places. I also did not like how the PC version reduced its control accuracy in places to make the challenge more in line with the console version.
It will simply take more money to improve upon what was done in "Enter the Matrix," while at the same time improve upon what was not done (QA).

Also from ve3d:
That's certainly the case as far as Atari UK is concerned, a spokesperson confirming with us today that Enter the Matrix developer Shiny Entertainment "will be doing another Matrix game" but added that it's not due for release until "around Christmas 2004".
The spokesperson further revealed that Atari is "also doing another one [a Matrix game] around 2006," informing us that this will also be developed by Shiny. We hope Dave Perry isn't planning a vacation anytime soon.
I do hope that this doesn't preclude the possibility of an expansion pack to be released along with the second movie, but it looks like it does.

I hope shiny can produce better sequals.
Sacrifice was an amazing game so they certainly have it in them to produce quality stuff.

Well, this Matrix may have tried to do too much in too little time. The driving and hovercraft levels just weren't very good, for a variety of reasons.
But the major hurdles are over. In development of the next game, hopefully enough work can be allocated to not just getting things in the game, but instead into getting them into the game and working well.
Unfortunately, this probably depends on higher-ups (publishers, the Wachowskis) in not deciding: it's going to sell a ton anyway. Why bother to improve the game?
