4870 512mb > GTX285 worth it?

Thinking about going back to nvidia. Would I get a noticeable performance upgrade when doing this (running on a E6600 @ 2.6ghz)?

He doesnt even need a new CPU if he knows how to overclock because he should be able to hit an easy 3.4ghz with that E6600. Pair that up with a GTX 260 or 285 and he has a nice system.

As for going from a 512mb 4870 to a GTX 285 yes you will notice a difference. I noticed a difference going from an 512mb 4870 to a GTX 260, most games just run faster on nvidia hardware and without the driver issues of ATI.

Well went from a 4870 (512) to GTX285 and yes it made a difference as I game at 1920 *1200 and love to put AA on 8* etc, if you were at at lower ress then I don't think it would make much difference at all.

Come on......don't be a fanboy here. "Most games just run faster on NVidia hardware and without the driver issues" is not a fair and factual statement. ATI drivers are just as good as NVidia's. And no, I'm not a fanboy of either manufacturer, and yes I own both. Just someone who gets pissed everytime I hear these kinds of unjustified statements.:D

Back on topic....it depends on the rez and eye candy you like to run with. Right now NVidia is king of the hill w/ the fastest card, but I'm sure it will be short lived. The real question is this....are you unhappy with how the 4870 512MB card runs your current gaming library? The 4870 is a very fast card and runs all games very well. I should know, 'cause I own one of them in another pc. Unless you're unhappy with the 4870, I say wait until the next generation comes around. They'll be here before you know it.
