Whats your take on John Edwards the Crossing Over guy who is a supposed psychic.

I thought he was total BS until we had a discussion at work and one of the guys actually met him years back in long island where he lives before he was famous. He swears up and down that this guy is for real and told him about his brother who had past a long ways ago.

I for one do get freaked out when I have de ja vu. I wonder if thats a form of mental telepathy.

I've never been to a psychic and might actually go with some friends.

the guy is a fake. Asks really broad questions and narrows it down from there, watch his show, the guy is so off on his initial "visions" or whatever they are. Just like playing 20 questions:lol:

Eh, I'm not totally sure that he's for real. Though if he is fake, he sure makes a lot of good guesses, because most of the things he says turns out to be acurate. Usually what he describes is for the most part fairly precise. So for now, I say he's the real thing, until I get some real evidence otherwise. Of course, he has every religous person in the world after him, but a lot of other things do nowadays...

I watched him a few times and he casts too wide a net to be genuine.

But James Van Praagh is definately legit, I think.

Its all fake!

There have been several articles and documentaries on how its fone, including a very good South Park episode entitled "the biggest douche in the universe. Search for it on kazaa, its an excellent episode.

First of all there are plants in the audience. The audience waits for hours before the show actually starts to be recorded, during which time everyone is talking about who they are hoping to contact etc. These plants then go back stage and tell John the basics like "that fat lady in the green dress just lost her husband called 'Mark'".

"Psychics" like John will use cold reading to fill in the details. Cold reading is where they say something vague and the person fills in the details for them. Edwards says something to the fat lady like "I am getting the image of trees... trees are important to Mark in some way". The lady says "oh yes, there are two trees outside our house, he was injured when he fell off one of them while pruning it" ... later shes says "how did he know that my husband fell off a tree?" - he didn't you idiot, all he said was "trees" and YOU told him that your husband fell off the tree. When he picks something general like "trees" or "flowers" or "a painting", there are a million ways the person could associate something so general with their deceased relative. The gullable victim changes a vague guess into a specific match, doing the work of the psychic for them.

Lastly the show is edited. John Edwards sometimes screws up and guesses completely wrong, but those parts of the show are edited out.

He's the biggest douche in the universe!
Actually, I've never sat through his show ever, but I'd say the guy is probably a fake, for reasons already given.

Yup yup. A classic grifter. Pretty fun to watch them work though and pretty madening to see people buy into it. It's like going to a fortune teller in your sr. year in high school and ask for you fortune to be told. She holds your hands and says "I see you going to a school...a good school. The name is coming to me but it is fuzzy...it..it starts with a U." The student says "OMG I'm going to the University of Washington" and has a cow and thinks this is real. What a load of hooie.

Who is T? ... im getting a T sound... or maybe a D or a B or something close to a D or a B... maybe a C...

someone in the audience: Cari?

Yes, its coming from over here... This Cari ... and she was your mother?... or some how connected to your mother?... like your mothers sister... or sister in law... or your grandmother... or your grandmother's friend... or...

She was my grandmother.

Yes, your grandmother... and you and her... you used to do... stuff... and this stuff you did together?

Yes!

(later after the show)

That John Edwards must be for real, how else did he know that my grandmother's name was Cari?

(me slaps her across the face for being so stupid)

Yeah, actually its really simple how they do it. I saw a TV special where they had a guy pretending to be like that guy. then at the end they told everyone they were just pretending for a documentry.

Anyways if you get picked to go on the audicen they have people that will go to your house and pretend to be lost, etc and get a look at your house. so he could say "you have a picture of a guy on your fireplace"

etc. they also look up your records of your family names etc.
