Alright guys, I've played Crysis for about 2.5 hours....and, well, I'm not sure if I'm missing something. It seems like the ONLY THING I do is cloak, run to the next tree, recharge energy, recloak, run to next tree....etc. If I get into a firefight, I instantly get overrun by 50 koreans that respawn as fast as I kill them, and then I have to go full armor, run away, hide, cloak....repeat.

Am I missing something? It feels like Metal Gear Solid....only the enemies infinitely respawn if you're spotted...which means you can't actually have a good gunfight, it doesn't matter how many enemies I kill, I simply don't thin out their numbers at all.

Does it get better later? Am I doing something wrong?

Are you sure they respawn? They never did for me. Are you even playing Crysis Butter?

Yah, they die and you move on to the next target/mission/whatever. There should be no infinite spawning.

And you typically are better off trying to pick em off from a distance until you get your scoped weapons. Get your armor up and then attack, cloak when you have to change your position or sneak attack :D

Oh, I bought The Witcher too, and it sucks. The only part about that game I like is sleeping with the ladies. I don't even care about the salamander people or the mutagens, I just want to see more sex scenes.

Butters has realized how over rated it actually is. Crysis is just another generic FPS in a pretty wrapper. It brings nothing new or great to the table except for it's unoptimized engine.

One thing I know for sure is that there is no respawning in Crysis. Enemies will come from way for off and reinforce if they hear a battle, but they are not spawned from nothing.

If you don't like cloak, don't use it. The game can be played Rambo/Quake style from start to finish, if you want. I did that on my first playthrough... then I played through on Delta and snuck around.

It's a demanding engine, but FAR from unoptimized. If you think it's not optimized you are seriously insane.

Waste of $50, I was very disappointed.

I enjoyed Crysis very much, and played through it 3-4 times trying approaches. The only level that I didn't like was inside the alien ship. Other than that it was a great game. The design is pretty good, the AI is pretty good, it's open-ended in terms of how you dispatch Koreans, and it looks great. Nothing really worth complaining about IMO.

What leads you to think it's optimized? Maybe I'm correct and yet still insane?

they don't respawn,
1 they are on the base,
2 they can arrive on boat if boat is near by,
3 they might arrive in jeep

simple fact that is runs very well on current hardware, and to this point there was no game that can match it in visuals.

It's optimized because of how amazing it looks and how you can run the thing at max setting with a smooth framerate on a single GTX 260, the lowest of the 200 series cards. Go read the tweakguide and his expert opinions on the engine... the game is amazingly optimized for what it does, it is just demanding.

Similar thing with Grand Theft Auto IV, which runs some amazing physics calculations and was built for triple-core 3+ghz machines, yet people try to max it out on a 2ghz dual core and complain when it runs choppy. Some games are just demanding, either because of their open worlds, their detailed graphics or the amount of things they juggle at one time. If you want poorly optimized, look at quick console ports, Saint's Row 2 being a good example. That game is doing half what GTA4 is doing and runs three times worse.

Sometimes i wish the KPA were a little smarter and sharper. I have become so adept at stalking and dispencing my prey that they cease to challenge me anymore. Just once i would like for them to take notice of me or investigate when i knock down a barrel accidentally or when i step on a branch.

Dam i love this game.
