I don't game that much either but I don't know it's just kind of fun pushing it and getting more speed out of it than you paid for. I guess it's a geeks kind of hot rodding. :o
*pushes glasses back up nose*........
yes correct. I heard something about i7s running hot, but i am not sure if this is how it should be. I did not use AS5, i used the thirmalright stuff that came with the heatsink.
I hope these temps are acceptable. We have been having a scorching last 3-4 days.
Some I7's run hot and some pretty cool. Mine idles at 36 degrees at 4.2 1.3 volts. Prime95 goes up to mid to high 80's. That's fine because no program I use, needs 100% of the cores all the time.

The D0 temptation again... cool running, low vcores and easy 4GHz+

Very true that. The D0 made a nice change from my C0/C1.

That's not helping Muppet :p
I'd like to get one just to try it out. But my eyes are on the 6 Core Gulftown CPU. But it's still not sure when that CPU will be available. If Intel would clearly say "Summer 2010" then I'd get a D0 right away...

The good thing about the D0 is they are quite a bit cheaper than the C0 when they came out. It only cost me $50 NZ which is about $28 US. Not bad at all.
I'm interested to know more about the Gulftown.

My C1 runs frosty at 3.8ghz @ 1.35Vcore with the TR TRUE copper and didn't get above 73c running 8 instances of Prime95 for 11 hours.
It's so rock-solid stable right now, I wouldn't even consider the hassle and cost (though small) to be worth another 200mhz or so.
But that's just me.

I'm curious with the extreme you have, is your oc limit at 3.8? Or is heat holding you back?

vcore. It would need around 1.42V for stable 4GHz, I don't want to go that high.

According to this article (http://www.computerbase.de/news/hardware/prozessoren/intel/2009/juli/lynnfield_692009_clarkdale_anfang_2010/) (german), Gulftown will arrive in 2010.
D0 is getting closer :p

Go on, you know you want to. :D

FYI, my D0 might run a bit warmer than my C stepping chip, although it certainly has more OC headroom.

AFAIK you got a superb C0 chip already. I wasn't that lucky last year...
Maybe I'll order one in a week or two.

my 1st C0 chip failed after a month on an OC at 3.20ghz, too scared to try it on the replacement C0/C1 chip
i had used the gigabyte utility

I have heard horrible things about the gigabyte utility.

This is true, my C0 was out of this world.

Well just thought I would post my fist oc on my I7 have not messed with voltage at all yet just upped the speed
Overclocked

and at idle
http://i918.photobucket.com/albums/ad25/mcolbourn/idle.jpg
I have noticed that one core is running 4 or 5 degrees lower than the others, not sure why I may have to remove the HS and redo the paste again. Tehn try upping a bit more

That temp delta between cores is normal.

Yikes it got up to about 70C in about 10 minutes of Prime 95?

What is the max temp after about an hour of Prime 95 running? My Q9550 after an hour of Prime 95 hits a high of 60C in comparison.

I will have to try it out at stock settings, if that's what you mean. As soon as i bought my first Chip they have been overclocked right out of the box. 4.2 hit's the 80's with 1.3 volts for me. Will post back with stock settings later.

Oh no I didn't mean stock speeds, I was just curious about what they hit while overclocked after an hour of Prime 95. I know it will vary with speed. I should have also said the 60C I said mine hit is with it overclocked to 3.8 @ 1.256 volts. I guess the I7s run quite a bit warmer than the quad duos.

The I7 is quite a bit larger than the Core2 design. I can try a comparison and run mine at 3.8 with 1.25 volts if you want.
