Out of interest does the PS3 have TrueHD S/PDIF passthrough?

Those look really nice, but do they sound as good as they look? :) Are they easy to drive; do they need a separate headphone amp to sound good?

Shure they do :bleh:

AFAIK, it converts to LPCM and outputs that.

First pic is the HTPC. An ASUS P5Q-EM, E7200, 4GB RAM, ATI 5670, BR / HD-DVD dual format drive, and Win7 32Bit, all wrapped up in a Zalman HD160 case.

Second pic is the AVR. Denon 3808CI...and the assorted networking gear to make it all work (vonage, wireless router, gigabit switch, cable modem).

http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n205/cybrsage/P1000652.jpg

Third Pic is the TV. Panasonic TH-42PZ700U, Paradigm Millenium 20 Trio and Entertainment Center (yes, that is Moses holding the ten commandments). I used a recessed light hole cutter attachment for my drill to cut 118mm holes in the bottom of the entertainment center directly under the center of the two sections. I hooked up 120mm noctua fans, wired them to a radio shack dc adapter and have them running at 9vdc, they are very very quiet and push a lot of air into the entertainment center. I have fans on the back of the entertainment center to pull the air out, hooked up the same way.

Fourth pic is just a further away view, showing the couches and one of my cats:

Not shown is the Paradigm PDR-10 subwoofer, two Paradigm Cinema 90s (left and right surrounds), and the Paradigm Cinema CC110 (rear center), making up the 6.1 system. Also have a HDHomeRun dual digital tuner and a AverMedia 780 tuner (which I only use for analog).

Next purchase will be a cablecard multi reader and then some buttkickers.

You are correct, in concerns to the original PS3. The original would do TrueHD but it was using the PS3's decoder not your receiver and you have to set the output on the HDMI setup in the PS3 to LPCM to get it. Still sound great, been using it for a couple of years with no complaints.

If I remember reading correctly the newer PS3 slims will send the TrueHD signal straight to the receiver. Here we go found the Engadget article a while back.

Hope that helps rev.

Denon +1. Great receivers :) I'm the satisfied and happy owner of an AVR-2809 unit, still working on getting some speakers though (Current setup is 2.0 - Jamo D 265 speakers which are good, but nowhere near as good as say, Focal speakers). Was thinking of getting some Focals, but they're rather expensive here and I can't really afford them right now. Aiming for a 5.1 set and MAYBE eventually 7.1. My PC is also connected to the receiver via HDMI (Radeon 4870) which is pretty neat too if I want to watch some family guy episodes or whatever.

TV (Samsung LE40B650):

Consoles (Rather new XBOX360 - I bought a fat PS3 on purpose, it was the last one they had at the store, don't like the slim):

Receiver and Humax digital TV decoder:

Quality of the pics isn't great. Took them with my phone. All in all, it's pretty mainstream stuff. My budget is unfortunately not unlimited and with my current expenses I don't really have much of a choice lol. And please... NO BITCHING ABOUT POOR CABLE MANAGEMENT! I've got enough people nagging me about that already hehe :D
