It looks like it might be in some form, but there must be some optimizations that were done.
NVIDIA was able to shrink the PCB down to 9" with the GeForce GTS 250, and in the process eliminate one of the GeForce 9800 GTX+'s 6-pin supplemental PCI Express power connectors. That would lead you to believe the GeForce GTS 250 consumes less power than the 9800 GTX+. And you'd be right. While both idling and under load, the GeForce GTS 250 consumes about 20 - 45 fewer watts than the older 9800 GTX+.

Hmm... It still has 2 SLI fingers, so it must be possible to do 3 way SLI on these.
Here you can see the good old G92 GPU. It is made in a 55 nm process using 754M transistors. The G92 has been used on a large number of NVIDIA cards before, including the 8800 GS, 8800 GT, 8800 GTS, 9600 GSO, 9600 GT, 9800 GT, 9800 GTX, 9800 GTX+ and 9800 GX2.
Say it all, really.

Unless the 2Gb version is better with GTA4 I see little point to this card.

That article that you linked to there... those numbers are way off. My Q9400@3.2 GHz and GTX260 216 trounce those numbers they have listed.
I think they're doing it wrong

Considering they also said the 9600GT was a G92, they might have failed to do a little homework.
The hothardware link shows some decent gains in Far Cry 2 at high resolution, showing that having 1GB of memory helps quite a bit over the 512MB.
I wonder what type of folding numbers these cards put up. Given the modest power requirements you can probably cram 2 or 3 of the 512MB version into a pc for a low price.
Does this mean the g92 guys can finally hang out in this forum?!? :)

The cards are now for sale at newegg.
EVGA cards are $129 for the 512Mb and $159 for the 1Gb.
Not bad at all for a very solid mid range card.
By comparison, the EVGA 9800 GTX+ 512Mb is $155 and the 1Gb is out of stock (was over $200). A Gigabyte 1Gb GTX+ is $179.
Just think of it as 9800GTX+ V2
