New build leaked. Performance has been great so far. Definitely some improvement over build 7000.

seems more responsive to me yeah. I was using x32 of 7022. Media center is improved in terms of stability. Some bug fixes for my digital tv tuner. Couldn't get one of my frequencies displaying as well before.

I dunno x64 just still seems slower to me. I was using 7022 x86 and clean installed 7048 x64 yesterday.
These guys benchmarked it and results are still disappointing. Apps like Winrar and 7-zip are still slower due to the WOW emulation, we need 64 bit versions of these type applications. Quickpar is still dog slow in x64 too. HD access is alot slower too.

IE 8 is alot more stable now, obviously later build..

7zip has a 64 bit version. It is right on their website.

ya, but quickpar doesnt, luckily I do most of that stuff on my other Q6600 @ 3.4Ghz with Vista x86 on it.

or is it only my PC HD4870 i need drivers for or do the "ordinary" 9.2īs work like these vista ones i have?

So whats the deal with release candidates and betas of new versions of Windows? How long do they last before they expire?

also does the ATi preview driver work better than the vista 9.2?
how stable are these betas? do they have a fully working firewall and stuff?
Anyone know if the SoundMax problem is sorted now? Drivers didn't like build 7000.

I have had no problem with any drivers or any software running on windows 7 builds. All of the builds have been equipped with everything you find in vista, plus the additional windows 7 features -- so yes, they do all have windows firewall installed. Also, build 7048 comes with one of the largest changes for the RC -- the ability to disable certain windows features. I know disabling windows features has been available for quite some time. This takes it above and beyond so that you can tweak exactly what you would like installed in Windows. http://www.neowin.net/news/main/09/03/06/beta-to-rc-changes--turning-windows-features-on-or-off
In my experience, the builds have been tremendously stable. I have been using windows 7 as my main, and only OS, since build 7000. Revs, I have an ASUS P5Q-E and the SoundMax drivers have worked fine for me. As far as video card drivers for windows 7, both companies have now released preview drivers for the OS. However, I continue to use the Windows Vista x64 driver packages for the Nvidia drivers because they work just fine on Windows 7. While they may not be WDDM 1.1, I do find that performance in games is better than the WDDM 1.1 drivers currently available for Windows 7.
So far, any of the builds that have been released are set to expire August 1. However, that applies to the betas and pre-rc builds (7048). Once the RC is released next month, it will have an extended expiration date. Also, I know there has been a lot of speculation on the release date of Windows 7, but the dates I keep hearing are RTM in August, store shelves in October.

Yes, you will want to install updated drivers (in compatiblity mode to ensure they install) the included drivers are quite old. For my board it had drivers from 2006 and I was having some ethernet related crashes. Once I installed the latest intel chipset drivers, sound and NIC drivers I haven't had a problem.
Installing the latest drivers should be something you are doing in Vista too though, as most the drivers in Vista are old as well and the ones are windows update arent usually the latest either.
Make sure to install drivers in compatibility mode and run as admin. The intel chipset drivers dont install if you don't do this. Until we get true W7 drivers I'd suggest doing this.

Very stable. Firewall works.
Only problem I have is using compatibility mode to install drivers and some apps that won't due to "unrecognized" OS. I've heard people are using 9.2 and they are better than the W7 preview at this point. Might wanna check rage3d though for more on that.

SoundMAX worked fine on 7000, 7022 and 7048. What was the problem you were having?
How do you get the newer builds in a legit fashion?

That is not true. I installed all of my drivers on Windows 7 7048 without running in compatibility mode or run as admin. The intel chipset drivers worked just fine installing as is on 7048.

The drivers for Windows 7 will be the same as the drivers for windows vista. It will be like the 2000/XP transition -- drivers are the same for both.

You should read up on WOW64. It's not emulation. The 32-bit code is passed to the (native) 32-bit processor at machine speed.
The slowness is probably related to either changes in the architecture that the apps do not take into consideration, or any kind of lingering debug or test code.
The hard drive ratings in Win7 have been reporting abnormally slow for a while. I haven't read up on why this is, or if the benches are accurate.

hey guys troubles start immediatley for me.
So i installed W7 7048 but it doesnīt show all my partitions/disks, the one with all drivers for GFX motherboard and other important stuff isnīt showing at all
why?
SoundMAX worked fine on 7000, 7022 and 7048. What was the problem you were having?
The drivers wouldn't install. Saying that, I don't think I've checked for an updated driver for a month or two.
EDIT: Just checked and Asus aren't listing an updated driver. I'll find out what chip it is and see if I can get drivers elsewhere.

I have photos and other inportant stuff on is as well besides drivers and so why canīt it be displayed?
Itīs there during installation, all disks show in device manager but not in "computer"

Open up disk manager and initialize the disk that way. Are you installing build 7048 or build 7000?

That is not true. I installed all of my drivers on Windows 7 7048 without running in compatibility mode or run as admin. The intel chipset drivers worked just fine installing as is on 7048.
So the dates on the intel controllers shows it worked? I didnt take a chance and just used Comp and run as admin to be sure. So I cant say if it worked without doing that or not. But 7022 definitely had to use comp and admin mode for them to install.
Check your intel controllers and see if the dates are 2006 or recent to be sure though. If you dont it looks like it installed, doesnt give an error but the drivers never change from the W7 default ones.
Easiest way goto Device manager, System Devices and check the dates on the ICH drivers.
Mine are dated: 1/21/2009 version: 9.1.0.1013
