What is the optimum Vista volume level. I have a Xonar D2X with Vista 64 and i have set it to 100%. Is that the best setting or should i set it a little lower? At my current level does Vista automatically apply some sort of automatic volume balancing.

Cheers

I don't really have an intelligent answer for you. However, I do have a stupid one:

Really, you should use whatever volume you are comfortable with.

I have it at 75%.

It seems if you max it, sounds get distorted, even when also using a manual volume control hooked into your speakers.

I believe 50% won't affect the sound quality at all (0db increase/decrease). You can use the volume nob on your speakers from there.

I Allways used 90% in the windows setting as it sets it at that default, that way it wont be distorted and works for me but it's just a preference so have it what you like, 100% is overkill tho!
