They really do get that high. I was trying to find a link to the Michael Jordan photograph I have. It's of him in the middle of his arc, arm and ball above the head flying towards the goal. Most incredible dunk-shot ever taken. Black and white to boot.
Cost me $850 for an original first run print and the frame too. Ahh well..I love it and I would have paid double.

Same dunk, differant angle. I have it from the sideline in black and white.

It's definitely real. Remember when he dunked over that 7' guy in the Olympics?

The ball does look kinda small in relation to the basket.

Yes, but this guy is shorter than the other towers around him...
Also look at the size of the ball. Even he looks smaller in relation to the others, not just shorter.
Why is everybody so far from the ball?
i played basketball througout high school... im 6'2 and can dunk(im white too!!:D) not all that great, but i once won a dunk competition in summer league....
but how about this guy... 5 foot 7 and dunking... spud webb...

It's real. Too bad for Vince that he'll have only one good leg from now on. Ever since he missed that shot in game 7 of the 2001 playoffs against the 76ers it's been downhill for him.

Oh, that Spud Webb's a wirey little bastard! :D
When I played NBA Jam at the arcades, people cringed if I took the team Spud was on (I'm not a basketball fan - love playing it but can't stand to watch it). Once you get Spud on fire and his mitts are holding the pill, that's all she wrote as his overall speed advantage made up for his lack of power and dunking.
I'd make most dunkers my bitch with ol' Spud.
Pippen!?! Oh, I'd worry then... :p

This was in Dallas that year. I believe it was Spud and Dominique in the finals and Spud won it over his team mate.
Oh and the memories of NBA Jam. I really miss that game.
if you want to see something amazing.. look for a poster with vince carter in the olympics or whatever... dunking OVER a 7ft french dood... he jumped OVER him (hurdled)
ok... so they french dood ducked... but it was still bloody amazing and the crowd reaction was ridiculous... they were buzzing for minutes (a bit like after most of kobe's highlight dunks nowadays)
btw... vince is crap... he thought he was better than he really was and thus became a victim of his own pr... vince carter is the nv30 of the basketball world...
And here it is.

Do you see the Raptor in the back? I think his jersey is #7 (could be #2). Anyway, his two feet are pointing inwards. Why?
Why is one of the lakers (name I forget) actually moving away from the basket? The reaction of the players appear that the shot was a 'done-deal'. They are not even going for the rebound.
And look at the spacing? Call that 'defense'? Where's Shaq? Shaq doesn't go around chasing guards, he'd be around the basket. Perhaps he's on the bench?
It maybe fake. Definately looks odd.

Looks like a fast break--guy with feet pointed inward was starting to turn around, and Shaq was at the other end of the floor.

That's is some fastbreak when powerforward Antonio Davis of the Raptors outran Vince Carter down the court. Not only that, Carter is so slow that Davis is already running back, not even thinking about getting the rebound. What's the likelihood of that happening?
Why is Robert Horry (Lakers) not even exerting himself? For a fastbreak, you'd think he'd be running back to play defense. And why is the other Laker running in the wrong direction to play defense? Forget defense, he's not even thinking about getting the rebound.
And regarding the player with the odd pointing feet? What direction do you think he was turning? His upper body do not look like at all that he was turning. It looked like he just took a jump shot as I sometimes see players with feet pointing inward like that after taking a jump shot.
I'm guessing that #7 took the jump shot, made it (which would explain why nobody is going for the rebound), and Horry was about to get the ball so he could inbound it.
It was most likely a dish of to a cuttin Vince. Vince came in from teh weak side. This would explain the lack of spacing on the right side of the key. Horry is just going to the basket and Davis is going down court cuz he let the play go since he had no play to make on Carter. Basically he gave up and was going in transition.

A pass was possible but that wasn't the case. A raptor (Alvin Williams) drove to the basket and had his shot blocked by Shaq. Both Shaq and Williams went out of the picture. (Shaq stumbled out of bounds actually and Williams was on the floor). But the ball was recovered by a laker who tried to pass for a fastbreak opportunity.
Vince intercepted the pass around the 3 point line, drove to the basket. (Williams picked himself up and he would be at Horry's right side in the picture, close to the 3-point line.)
That Laker that looked like he gave up in the picture, actually tried to reach for the ball and missed. He actually ran in front of Vince and was in the process of slowing himself down when the picture was taken. So he wasn't actually running away from the basket, thinking that the shot was a done deal.
Antonio Davis (Raptor) was in the process of possessioning himself for a pass from Vince. That is why none of these guys were going for the rebound.
Horry was doing what you said, he was heading for the basket, basically following Vince. Horry eased up once Vince was in the air.
From 3-point line to dunk must have taken a total of 2.5 seconds or something.
The dunk was real.
Thank God! Now I can sleep better. :p
Actually that's cool we now know the story of this picture.
My first guess was the one guy running away made a play for the ball but missed and then gave up on hte play.
BTW Where did you get the info or is this a popular dunk that is shown a lot?
