Electronic Arts Montreal is developing a sequel to co-op military shooter Army of Two, EA confirmed today.

Army of Two: The 40th Day will be set in Shanghai amid a "disaster of epic proportions," and heroes Rios and Salem return to fight their way together through a series of catastrophes.

EA says it adds a bigger playbook of new co-op moves available to players at any time, providing opportunities for more strategies than in the prior version. The title's set to launch on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC and PSP this Winter, although no specific date is yet confirmed.

"We’re pushing the tactical two-man military team into new battlegrounds offering a completely organic and rich co-op experience to deliver an action-packed co-op shooter this winter," says EA Montreal executive producer Reid Schneider.

"As chaos blankets Shanghai, China, you must rely on your partner to survive as you weave through a broken city left devastated in a mysterious wake."

In recent months, EA has frequently discussed a tight focus on its core brands as part of its reorganization strategy for 2009, aiming for more sequels to its existing franchises.

PC this time eh? EA has been showing the PC more love lately... I guess the SecuROM thing has actually worked out for them, despite what certain activists would have you believe.

Could be a good game... I enjoyed playing the first one with my best friend in split-screen, though I only rented it.

You're right, Kotaku doesn't make any mention of a PC Version.

After a lovely week and a half of rumor and speculation, EA Montreal pulls back the curtain on Army of Two: The 40th Day, now under development for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PSP.
