View Full Version : S3 Delta Chrome Questions....
There is a bunch of new info on their website (New to me anyway). The link is:
http://www.s3graphics.com/index.html
I am wondering about cost and when the card will come out. I did read $199 and sometime in October but am wondering if that changed.
S3 claims 2.4 Giga pixels of bandwidth with 8 pixel pipeline. I am curious how that compares with Radeon 9800 and GFFX 5900/5800. I tried to find equivalent numbers on Nvidia's and ATI's website but couldn't (Unless I just missed it).
So how does the claimed 2.4 giga pixels of bandwidth from the Delta Chrome compare to the bandwidth of the GFFX 5900 and the ATI Radeon 9800? If anyone knows please post.
From what I am reading over at S3 website, Delta Chrome looks like great card. I am keeping open mind about them. Will be very interested in reading reviews once the card is released :)

Yes!!
Another Deltachrome thread! And I didn't have to start it myself! :)
What they claim is 2.4 Giga-pixel FILLRATE. And that is about the same as that of the Radeon 9700Pro. S3G does however, claim that the DeltaChrome will use its bandwidth and fillrate more efficently than either R3XX or NV3X. Historically, S3 have seldom lived up tp claims, with one exception, they have always made good use of their bandwidth.
I look forward to DeltaChrome with caution, if is released i Q4, works, performs slightly beter than 9700Rro and runs without a fan I will buy one.
(S3 never put fans on their chips, not even the 166Mhz Savage4Xtreme or the 11M transistor S2K, I really hope S3G will NOT put fans on DeltaChrome)
And please, do not bash the product before there are any preveiws at least. :)

Until this board has been properly tested, I would take anything posted on their website with a huge grain of salt. I, too, hope it's a real nice product...But S3 has had a history (obviously, they've been out of the scene for a few years now) of making their products look better on paper, than in reality.

I'm inclined to agree - Although I have my fingers crossed that DeltaChrome will indeed be something special, I get the feeling it's more likely to be something of a white elephant. :(

So when is this card supposed to come out? Last I heard it was sometime in Summer. Is that still the case or has it been delayed?
Did they demo the card at E3 or anything?

Well, my statement really does apply to everybody...But clearly, ATI is delivering the goods, while nVidia is delivering a lot of crap over the last year :)

Last sensible thing I heard about release dates for desktop DeltaChrome was something about the F1 version being on the shelves in mass quantity by the holiday season... so I expect they are aiming for a late Q4 release...
Could be they are playing it safe and plan to have it out by octóber, but says december to safeguard against small delays...

they quote 25k marks so maybe itll be as fast as a radeon9900 pro and be released a month after the radeon9900 pro and be as fast as one in benchmarks and games and they say $199 is their price tag, might be tempting for me to get one of those :afro2:

25k 3dmarks? Maybe if the card ships in 2005 there will be CPUs fast enough to achieve that kind of score
In 3D Mark 2001SE? That would be amazing  I'll bet thats like 10k in 3D Mark 2003!

Yeah, I was assuming 3dmark2001 3dmarks. There is just no way any system/card released this year can get 10K+ 3dmarks in 3dmark03 stock.
And, like I said, 25k even in 3dmark2001 seems BS stock. 3dmark2001 is too system dependent for a video card to make that much of a difference. So either S3 is trying to pull a fast one, or the card isn't coming out very soon. Possibly both :D

Maybe by the time that deltachrome gets released, we will have cpus giving 25k marks on that card or the same score on a radeon9700 pro :)
