Hey everyone, i know the fx 5200 isnt a very good fx card, but i upgraded from a 4x geforce4 mx 440 to a fx 5200 agp 8x, anyways i thought the fx 5200 would be better then the mx 440, but its crappier, i got close to 6000 marks on the mx 440, and on the fx close to 5000, wat the hell!?
the 44.03 drivers dont do crap, mgs2 has graphical issues and the mx 440 ran it smoother in 1024X768,
is there something wrong with my fx ? ive tried the 43.51 drivers and they got me in the 2000's in 3d mark so there crap, can a newer detonator fx driver unleash more power ??
im very upset and dissapointed that i sold my old mx 440 for this card!

Note: If possible, lets keep this an Nvidia discussion....... on the 5200 topic. Please no ATI stuff......

Probably you have gotten yourself a 5200 card with a 64 bit of memory. Goto www.evga.com and you'll see some comparison and actually they have an article that talk about the different configuration that a 5200 have.
Here's the link http://www.evga.com/articles/public.asp?AID=134

I've actually purchased mine from EVGA , when they have a promo for a FX5200 Ultra for $129. I am happy with it.

I've also tried the plain 5200 first and I was really disappointed. I returned the card and got the ULTRA version. Actually, the July issue of the PC GAMERS Magazine gave the ULTRA it a pretty nice number ,90%, for the review. I still have a GF4Ti 4200 128 meg and comparing the 2 cards, the Ti 4200 is still faster. Now From what I heard from the EVGA ref is - They said when the DX9.0 gmaes starts to come out... they you'll see the difference between a GF4 and a FX card. I have to wait and see for myself.
REAL PLAYABILITY" NOT BENCHMARKS " is really what COUNTS.

I think you're the BAD CHOICE........ I can buy what ever card they have out there in the market.... But you are probably one of those who don't have to eat for months to buy a RIVA TNT2.
Who wants your type of opinion in this forum. Go suck on something...

PLEASE ......

LOOK AT THE FIRST POST - He need a "descent opinion" about his ASUS card.

The fact you you bought a card with performes less that a GF MX card alone says enough. I prefer no card than a 5200. Next if you have the budget to buy a better card for a few $ more, than do you make the stupid msitake to buy the 5200.

It is hard to acknowledge when someine has made a wrong purchase

The more you type, the more hilarous you become:ass:

http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.html?i=1797&p=15

From anandtech:

[quote]When looking at the actual products themselves, you can make a couple of generalizations about their performance. For starters, the GeForce FX 5600 Ultra performs much like a GeForce4 Ti 4200 in situations where no anti-aliasing or anisotropic filtering is used. Enabling either or both of those features allow the 5600 Ultra to significantly outperform the GeForce4 Ti 4200, mostly thanks to the NV31's superior memory controller, compression and AA engines.

The GeForce FX 5200 Ultra performs slightly above the level of a GeForce4 MX 460 in situations where no AA or aniso is enabledbut once again, enabling those features causes the 5200 Ultra to perform more like a GeForce4 Ti 4200 than a GeForce4 MX. The reason behind this is obviously not because of any compression algorithms (as there is no color/Z compression in the NV34 GPU), but rather because of the AA and anisotropic filtering engines, as well as a vastly improved memory controller when compared to the GeForce4 MX (not to mention the higher clock speeds).

All 128MB Geforce FX 5200's use 128bit memory, however it's clock at 400MHz while the ultra has it's clock at 650MHz which is 4GB/sec extra bandwith over 400MHz.

Actually the 5900 FX Ultra is the card that I am looking into. I bought the 5200 ULTRA just to try it out myself out of curousity. But not bad for a level to mid entry card. The 5900 ULTRA seems to be promising. When that happens, I will be switching to a new MoBo and Ram 875 chipset and a PC3200. That will do it.

There is also a 5900FX Value that sells for a $100 less than an ULTRA, but I believe it has only 128 bit compared to the ULTRA that have 256 bit. That's not bad too...

I am hoping the value version will have some thing like 600MHz 256bit memory, still almost 20GB/sec bandwith and still pretty cheap :)

ahahah what a sucker, I was one too, I thought the fx5200 would be as fast as my ti200 but my mx440 was faster! what you should do is sell that fx5200 on ebay and buy a ti200 :D

I had an fx5200 that ran real bad on my kt266a's... bios flashes, new xp installs, and different driver versions didn't help....

I sold it to a guy with an AMD 760 chipset mobo, and it wouldn't run 3d on his mobo at all... He tried it on a P4 and an nforce2 and it benched completely as it should have, and ran great... he's sending it back to me tho...

On my setup it benched poorly but ran ok... felt like a stock ti200 when it was oc'ed...

my fx5200 was slower than an mx440 in everything also would lock up in 3dmark 2003 and also she was locked so I could not overclock her. my ti200 was 50-75% faster and cost me less too

hey guys, it turns out im going to get a radeon 9100, its only gonna cost me an extra 50 bucks, i cant get nothin else seeing im not refunding it and buying this radeon, im trading it back and paying 50 bucks for the radeon, ive read reviews and it looks ok, i isnt AGP8x, unfortunalty, but it gets 8,000 marks standard on 1024, and my fx5200 cant :(

...why was my 128 mb gainward 5200 @ 280 stock for the memory then?

I still havent figured that out....

I tried a different bios (the dvi version's) and it froze right after 400... 320/~400 was my core/mem speeds... best I could do with a 1491mhz athlon on a kt266a: http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=6403842

And not all 128mb 5200's run a 128bit memory bus... I think mine had a 64...

http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=&threadid=10660&perpage=25&highlight=tooth%20and%20nail&pagenumber=1

rivatuner said 128bit, but I had 4 memory chips, not 8, and I could never get my fillrate higher than 330/800 or so...

???

...the gainward mystery: still unsolved...

Oh well, I'll have it again in a couple days... time to try some new tricks on it...

In the meantime: anyone else ever get a 5200 with 280 stock memory speed? And is that meaning 280 as in 140x2, or 560 as in 280x2? ... ehh ... dang Videey0 kardz...

my gawd!!!!!!! 5400 marks? I was getting 5800 marks on a stock mx440 at 270/400 which is clocked even lower than your FX also that card did not even run the nature test either! I had the fx5200 64 megs too and I could not believe how slow it was......5100 marks........it reminded me of my old geforce2mx in a way, even my ti200 was 50% faster, and double the speed in the nature test which we all know is video intensive! the 64 bit memory bus probably killed half the performance

the 9100 is one hell of a card, good choice dont worry about dx9, niether of this crappy low end cards will play those games and anyway dx9 games are far away.
