View Full Version : cpu Cooling solutions...what do you use?

I see many many posters in this forum have their rig specs in their sigs and most have some type of overclock on their procs. In my current rig I have a lowly c2d E6700 oc'd to 3.2 and have run it like this for the last 20 months. My CPU cooler is an Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro and it keeps my CPU at about 18c idle and 31-32 under heavy load.
My thread question arises from the fact I'm building a new i7 rig right now and was wondering if you could post your system specs and cooling solutions. I've looked at some of the better air cooling solutions (like the Thermalright TRUE, V8 etc,) but am looking seriously at the Coolit Freezone Elite or maybe even the Domino ALC. The size of the air cooling solutions could be an issue as although I rarely move my current rig, there will be occassion in the future to attend some serious LAN parties and get togethers and a huge aircooler could jeopardize my mobo due to their enormous weight.
Anyway, please post yours and any additional info would be appreciated.

Xigmatek Dark Knight (S1283 modified). It's lapped too... I get about 40C idle and 70C load, 1.25vcore, 4.1ghz.

Zalman CNPS9700LED (with i7 mounting bracket).
Usually idle around 35C, load at 50C or so. Prime95 small fft it gets to about 80C. Don't get scared, they run hotter than the C2D. I had an E6700 too, never overclocked it though. :)

FSX loves it !
man i love this DO
Running a COOLER MASTER Hyper N 520. I am pretty impressed with it so far. Also it is smaller than most high-performance air coolers only with 92mm fans so the size is not so much an issue. I am running a very slightly OC'd core i7-920 at 3.2Ghz currently. Temps are about 37-40C idle and 71C max at load. The max I determined by running LinX overnight and this is as high as it got. For general computing and game playing it may get as high as mid 60's but no more. See link below to see the cooler I purchased.

H2O Ek supreme CPU block on QX9650 + Ek fullcover 280gtx block
The awesomely cheap Freezer 7 Pro. My RAM is holding back my cpu overclock so this modest cooler is fine. Idle around 32c / 51c w/ Orthos.

I use the Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme ,I had a Zalman 9700 which was good but the Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme was just a little better IMO if you are going to do some heavy overclocking.

I've been using my trusty ultra 120e (with penny mod), ac mx-2 paste, and a quiet 60cfm fan. Does the job like a pro and doesn't make me want to stab my ears:)

Naw, I keep so much cold beer in me at all times, my body temp must be about 50 degrees F. Much cooler than any heatsink fan alone.
