View Full Version : 4870X2 sales bottom out after GTX295 launch
And there goes the Fudzilla link, ROFLMAO!!!
To me, one unnamed source is as good as another.
As the hardware.fr unnamed source article was so well received by you and others, I thought you would want to see this unnamed source article as well.
And there goes the Fudzilla link, ROFLMAO!!!
Why are you making such a big deal out of this? You're the ones bringing this to everyone's attention by continuing this useless thread. Rollo wants attention and that's what you're giving him.
And even though this "article" is from fudzilla - it is still true, it just isn't news(big woop that an 8 month old card isn't selling as well as its faster rival, that's pretty damn obvious).

ROFL.
I take a break, come back, and surprise, surprise.. Rollo is once again trolling the ATI forum. But this time, he's surpassed even my expectations. He's quoting Fudzilla. As a reliable source of information.
ROFLRIFICETERNITY.
Moved to the correct subforum.
Sorry, but fudzilla is hardly reliable information...

If anything is hurting ATi right now is their prices. I went to several BB's and Microcenter and in every single one the X2 was quite a bit more than the 295. I know prices a little more different online but lots of people still go the stores. It was a no brainer for me to grab the 295 for $70 less ($499 vs. 569)

People that go to BB and Microcenter also generally think $$$ > $. No offense.
Do Nvidia cards do native audio and video over hdmi?
HDMI audio on NVIDIA cards is handled via SPDIF connector, so yes NVIDIA cards can handle the audio over HDMI. (DVI to HDMI converter)

On the new 2xx cards?
Coz my 8800 GTS can't do it :(
I get video over HDMI and audio is output via optical, but I can't do it with just the hdmi output by itself.

I was checking open box inventory on newegg, and i noticed they were bunch of returned 4000 series cards.

All over ATI cards. Now, i was thinking why and hardly i could come up with conclusion. I believe people after using Nvidia cards find ATI :thumbdwn: especially CCC which is utter crap.

You can't say ATI cards are bad in general, it depends on the generation, GeForce 4 cards were great, they were crushed when ATI launched the 9700 pro just some months later, and nVidia "response", the GeForce FX 5800, was the crappiest card they have ever released, a true joke. However after the GeForce 6800 series nVidia regainded the crown and the confidence of people.
ATI had their onwn disaster card with the 2900XT series, later they recovered somehow with the 3000 series (still lagging behind nVidia, but not bad cards anyway), and they have finally launched the very competent 4000 series.
That's why being loyal to a brand is plain stupid, sometimes ATI cards are better, sometimes nVidia cards are better.
Truth is that nVidia has won more battles than ATI in their particular fights.
And if you don't like CCC there are other alternatives like ATT, just like nHancer complements nVidia control panel.

Exactly, honestly, so far, I've liked CCC/ATI's drivers in general better than Nvidias. I haven't had any problems on any of my 3200's or on my 4830.

Major reason why i stopped using ATI cards is as i said CCC. Can't stand it, especially profile part of it. I don't use nhancer, don't like it. i am just glad that Nvidia was delivering what they promised all these years. Also SLI Scales better then Crossfire which is another reason for getting Nvidia. Again, nForce was my #1 choice platform on which Crossfire didn't work. Now, that i own x58 at this point of game it would be stupid to move to ATI anyway after owning GTX280. Speaking of CCC ATI lost a lot of customer after very first day they released it...and that was around or after Radeon 9800XT lunch.

The very first versions of ATI CCC blowed badly, but today it works quite well. And I agree, if you own a GTX280 it would be stupid to move to ATI today, because they won't offer anything better to you. TODAY. Who knows what the DX11 generation will bring to us.
I would say in my gaming life I've been 70% of the time with nVidia cards, and 30% with ATI (after 3Dfx dissapeared), and I don't remember having major problems with any brand, that's why today I'm still open minded and I'm not afraid at all of switching from one to another.
I have a 4870x2 card bought back in august, however if nVidia would have delivered their dual GPU card back them, I'm 99% sure I would have bought it, just because is faster.
No brand is perfect, my LOTRO friends that have nVidia cards have suffered a horrible flickering shadows problem for months in DX10 until nVidia has managed to fix it just a couple of weeks ago. And I suffered in this same game lots of rendering problems with the initial release of the 4870x2 drivers that got fixed after a couple of releases.
Nice to read an intelligent and reasonable post. Currently I like Nvidia's clock for clock superiority and driver support, but in any competition this can change.

They need to adjust those open box prices. When you can get a new Asus 4870 512MB for $134, you're not going to be paying $180-$190 for open box:

That's actually a pretty good deal on the Asus.

We will see what ATI and Nvidia are going to bring as far as DX11 hardware. I might get ATI this time around, you never know. We will have to sit and wait. I know that AMD can't miss with ATI cards. It generates a lot of money for them.

I believe it was introduced with the 9800GTX.
