Ok. Here in AU things are messed up and it's cheaper to get 2x260GTX SP216s then 1 295GTX. So what would be better. Does 1 295 outperform 260SLI?

I have an old Abit 650iSLI board to plug them into and I plan to get a Corsair 850watt PSU for them both. Any thoughts would be most appreciated. Oh and how does the lastest ATi cards compare... Just incase. ::bleh::

Swift Reply expected as always. *NSFW*

1 GTX295 should be faster than 2 GTX 260 216s because the 295 has the full 240SP on it. If you can get a pair of OC'ed 216s then it's probably going to be really close.

Given a choice between the two I'd probably go with the 295. If you want to upgrade your motherboard any time soon you'll be able to use the same GPUs without having to get an SLI-capable board, which could save you a lot of money.

These aren't OCs, just plain jane Inno3Ds. There are also EVGAs on offer, but they only do a 1 year warranty in AU. Not worth the extra 100 premium. Well maybe if jAkUp signs them for me.

If you already have a SLI board then I would go for the two GTX260 and save the $150 unless you are thinking about going quad in the future. You could amost get three GTX 260 for the price of a GTX295.

That's my thinking. That 150 could easily cover most of a decent PSU. Then again. I could go 295 and keep my 8800GTX for physx... If they ever sort that out.

If there is that much price difference then go with the 260s for sure. :)

680AUD for 2x260s

850AUD for the 295.

That's including postage and with my discount, from AUSPCMArket Only place I trust. 170 goes along way for the required PSU and I can sell the 8800GTX on top of that. 2x260 looks the deal. ::):

I would also go for the260s over the 295 sandmich card. Nvidia has a single pcb version coming out soon as well.

I did come across some benches with GTX 260 SP216 and had a GTX 295 with the GTX 260 cards coming out slightly better not sure why perhaps the extra PCI-E bandwith of the two slots?

The difference in performance does not justify the cost.

I would avoid the 295 simply because it blows alot of heat in to the case. The 260's don't.

Here, in the EU, the cheapest GTX260 core 216 costs 209E, and a 4850X2 costs 289E.

Check the performance in the games that you are going to play, and decide.

Also, think about things like CUDA, PhysX, DX 10.1, drivers, H264 HW Playback, ... or think about the possibility to add a 2nd 4850X2 in the future.

I think that the performance gap between 2xGTX260 core 216 & the GTX295 is very small to justify the price difference, but, you might prefer the single slot solutions for future upgrades.

It just brought up another point. The poster is looking for a card in the same price range, the 48x0 series is more than relevant, especially for what the poster is looking for. For him to not at least look into his options and address the additional price/performance factor the ATI cards would bring to the table would be stupid.

I looked at the 4980s. They are in stock, but in most early benchies they are slower than one 260GTX ::(: Not worth it when i can get 2x260 for a a bit more.

Anyway I have 2 260GTXs SP216s on the way in the next couple of days. Should be fun in Crysis. ::D:

EDIT: Seems they are out of stock, so I placed the order with PCCaseGear and got 2 Gigabyte 260GTXs for 330 each. So it's even cheaper. Also grabbed a 850 Corsair PSU, a Phenom system for Mum and a CoolerMaster 690 for Beagle. Lots o building for Easter.

Great. They charge my card wait another day then tell me they are out of stock of the Gigabyte Cards. Now I have some Gainward Golden Samples on the way... I think.

You will enjoy those two GTX 260's in games when you can crank up the FSAA and aniso.A GTX 295 is just priced to high.

Well they are on the way. Wont get here in time for weekend though. ::(: Can't wait. First thing I'm gonna do is install nude Dawn, then nude Nalu, then nude Mad Mod Mike... I mean nvm.

I love my 260 216s. You should get a decent OC from them. All three of my old cards do 711|2300. I wouldn't think you'd get stuck with less than 660 on the core, which will be plenty, particularly in SLi.

Good case ventilation seems to help the 295s.....but the 295s are pretty stiff from a $$ standpoint.

What you're paying for with the GTX295 is the ability to have SLi on a non SLi motherboard, and Quad SLi.

As such, it's not overpriced.

Beyond that, $500 for the highest performing sinmgle slot solution has been the norm for YEARS.

I think GF2 Ultras were $500 at launch.
