Using compute shaders, sorry if this has been posted already I didn't see it anywhere, kinda short but easily the best rendered water I have ever seen.

woow very impressive, hope that we can get games that actually can look like this.
I have a feeling it will come sooner then later as nVidias physx push :)

I believe I read somewhere that the water in Crysis at the highest setting also used an FFT algorithm to generate its effects. It looks very similar to this. All of the CUDA SDK samples on NVIDIA's website are worth taking a look at.

I think the best water I have ever seen is still Farcry: Instincts on the Xbox 360. Amazing stuff... too bad the rest of the game looked like butt.

Wow cant wait later this year for DirectX 11 and GT300 with Compute shaders. (nana2)

Well I was about to say the same as DX11 seems to be really good, have read up on everything DX11 and it feels like the devs actually will start or jump over it. many as we know has passed up on DX10 as it wasent end all be that but by the time DX11 ships then they have an great base to build upon as Vista/Win7 will share it and DX10 hardware will benefit from it greatly!

They also showed off a Real Time 3D Fluid and Particle Simulation and Rendering using cuda at GDC. Very cool stuff. I wonder if we'll see anything like it in Dirt2.

I half expected to be rick rolled considering this was posted on the 1st. It looks amazing!

The animation of the sea looked good, but the surface shaders looked way too basic to make it look real.

:captnkill: lol, I actually tried to play it after I clicked the link. Then I realized it was only a video :o

I was hoping this was the new nvidia tech demo for the 285/295 in the same line as Medusa for the 260/280, very nice video though.

Both demos are impressive, I wonder when are we seing those effects in games

Similar fft based waves have been used in many games already.

I recall they demoed some Fluid simulation for smoke effects coming up for sewer gratings in HellGate london, looked pretty sweet, swirled when the player moved through it and stuff..
Shame the rest of the game looked like ass, think that stuff didnt acctually make it into the final game though, not really sure.

could definatly start seing stuff like that soon, specially now with OpenCL and CS, which works on all cards instead of CUDA solutions for NV only.
Its trivial stuff, so it doesnt really impact the game if you dont have the HW to run with "enhanced smoke and dust"..

It was in the final game in it's dx10 mode, altough it did use way too much power for the visuals it brought.

The first time I saw water like that and many improvements since then was IL2. The latest version of IL2 1946 and their latest DLLs make the water pretty impressive. Especially for carrier operations in the Pacific theater.

Yeah not bad for an old game.

Sun effect looks better and it's based on FFT too:

In fairness the original water video was better. It showed more depth to the ocean.

That looks exactly like the water in Crysis in DX10 mode on the last level. I was very impressed when I saw that ~1 years ago.
